On Tuesday, November 8, Maison de Mode hosted their third annual Future of Fashion Summit at Hearst Tower’s Joseph Urban Theatre. Founded by Hassan Pierre and Amanda Hearst, Maison de Mode has developed into a galvanizing force, paving the way toward a more sustainable future in fashion while encouraging others to do the same. On a mission to become the global platform for sustainable fashion, the innovative retailer provides luxury apparel, fine jewelry, and home goods— all of which are ethically sourced.
With their annual Future of Fashion Summit, Maison de Mode continues to push their mission a step further by curating conversations surrounding sustainability. This year, Future of Fashion 3.0 (hosted by stylist Cassandra Dittmer) featured a one-day conference of thought-provoking panels with a lineup of industry leaders including Editor-In-Chief of Harper’s Bazaar Samira Nasr, Senior Vice President of Fashion for Bustle Group Tiffany Reid, and Senior Fashion Editor of Town & Country Magazine MaryKate Boylan to name a few.
Founder of HBFIT, Hannah Bronfman, kicked off the conference with her opening remarks, emphasizing the importance of taking action to build a brighter future: “Due to the large quantity of products manufactured, used, and disposed of, the textile and apparel industry has a big environmental impact during every phase of product life cycle.” said Bronfman. “Sustainable or ethical fashion is a response to the environmental and social devastation brought by conventional practices.”
During the summit, topics of discussion ranged from building sustainable brands to creating conscious collaborations in the fashion world. “There’s a symbiotic relationship that happens between the planet and humans, and we need to rebuild that,” said Studio189 Co-founder Abrima Erwiah. “Fundamentally, I think it’s about [ensuring] justice and equity within the supply chain that will bring us back together toward a common goal so that everybody can rise together,”
Following the conference, panelists and close friends of Pierre gathered at Fasano Fifth Avenue’s intimate venue to celebrate the summit’s success. Guests enjoyed a delicious dinner— sponsored by Johnnie Walker, De Beers, and Bakel— which featured seasonal cocktails and an array of Italian dishes such as tuna carpaccio, cacio e pepe, and gelato.
