Indonesian fashion startup Claude closes seed funding

Indonesian D2C apparel company Claude has closed a seed-funding round led by one of the early backers of Tokopedia and Kakao Corp, CyberAgent Capital.

The round was also participated by the family office Prima Fund I. The company said the funds, which value has not yet been disclosed, will be used to enhance its product offerings and strengthen the market it has already penetrated, including Southeast Asia and the US.

Claude was founded in 2018 by creative directors Christie Johana and Tommy Budihardjo, focusing on offering fashion pieces that capture the attention of Gen Z and Millennials.

“Indonesia is one of the largest consumer retail markets in the world,” said Nobuaki Kitagawa, MD of CyberAgent Capital.

“With Claude’s strong brand value along with the experiences brought by the management team, we believe that the company could bring its unique value propositions and be well-accepted by the huge Indonesian and Southeast Asia apparel markets.”

The brand opened its first store in Singapore last year at Takashimaya Shopping Centre.
