THE big day is nearly here, but when it comes to your festive outfit, don’t spoil Christmas by looking tacky.
When it comes to this time of year there are certain things that can make you seem dated and naff, think tinsel, coloured lights and 3ft Gonks.
But your Christmas outfit shouldn’t be tacky.
At the most wonderful time of the year you should feel your most wonderful – and look it too.
Here fashion editor Clemmie Fieldsend lists the looks that will get you on the naughty list this year.
CHRISTMAS JUMPERS
Novelty Christmas jumpers have had their day.
Sure, they were funny and new a few years ago but showing off your punny knit or sweatshirt with lights on is old hat – or worse still one that you made yourself.
Try a stylish fairisle jumper, like Kate Middlton wore recently when decorating her Christmas tree.
SEXY COSTUMES
Slipping into a sexy Santa outfit or a naughty elf costume isn’t for a family Christmas day.
You don’t want your Nan spitting out her sprouts over your kinky costume.
But if you still want to feel festive and glam try a figure hugging frock or skirt in Christmas colours like red or dark green.
TARTY TARTAN
Traditional tartans come out in force at Christmas, be it on pyjamas, wrapping paper or a shortbread tin.
But it shouldn’t be worn on a mini skirt and crop top.
Tarty Tartan makes you look naff and dated, best to keep it for the bedroom. And that means on your flannel nightwear.
FAUX FUR
The copy and paste look of a faux fur gilet with knee high boots and a waist belt (possibly a floppy hat which is worn indoors) is more common than Turkey on the table.
Those who pose for a Christmas Day pic in the look with a Live Laugh Love sign behind them are tacky.
Loose the faux fur and you’ve got a sophisticated and classy outfit.
MATCHING OUTFITS
Matching pyjamas are a huge hit at Christmas, and undoubtedly look cute and bring the family together.
However when it comes to the day itself, steer clear of matching the whole family or just you and your mini-me.
Instead, opt for tonal matching looks like Kate Middleton and Charlotte. Still a nod too the look but less naff.
