“I want to make people feel like I’ve earned this opportunity”

When Karan Johar announced that he was launching Shanaya Kapoor, daughter of Sanjay Kapoor and Maheep Kapoor in Bedhadak earlier this year, it sparked a huge debate about nepotism. People criticized the director left, right and center for always giving big breaks to star kids, Shanaya recently said that she wanted to make people feel that she deserved this opportunity by showcasing her acting prowess through her performance. “I’m grateful for the opportunity and I’m working very hard to prove that I deserve it. I want my performance in this film to make people feel that I earned this opportunity — that I didn’t waste it or that I’m “Don’t take it for granted. I’ve worked really hard and I’m going to keep going,” Shanaya said in an interview with Zoom. She added that she is both nervous and excited about her Bollywood debut and is just one step closer to fulfilling her childhood dream. Apart from Shanaya, Bedhadak also features Gurfateh Pirzada and Lakshya in their debut roles. The first posters of the film were released earlier this year by Dharma Productions on Instagram. Bedhadak was supposed to release this year but there was no update from the makers for a long time. It was then reported that Karan Johar has postponed the film or it has been postponed indefinitely due to some difficulties. He later cleared the air by saying that the film is on its way and will hit the screens next year.

The film will be directed by Shashank Khaitan. Before her debut, Shanaya worked on the Jhanvi Kapoor starrer Gunjan Saxena as an assistant director to understand filmmaking. The 21-year-old is already in the fashion police with her stunning looks and going by her confidence, it looks like Shanaya is ready to embrace the showbiz world like a pro.
