Akshay Kumar is often pulled by netizens for his Canadian citizenship, although he has never hidden or denied that he has a Canadian passport. Although Khiladi Kumar doesn’t care about online trolling, he recently revealed that he thought of moving to Canada after making 14-15 flops in a row.
“A few years ago, my films didn’t work. Almost 14-15 films were not working, so I thought I should probably move elsewhere and work there. Many people move there (Canada) for work but they are still Indians. So I also thought that if fate is not in my favor here, then I should do something about it. I went there, applied for it (citizenship) and got it,” Akshay told Lallantop.
He further added, “I have a (Canadian) passport. What is a passport? It is a document used to travel from one country to another. Look, I’m an Indian, I pay all my taxes and I pay them here. choice to pay it there too but i pay them in my country. I work in my country. Lots of people say things and are allowed to. To them I would just like to say that I am an Indian and I will always be an Indian.”
On Coffee With Karan 7, when Karan Johar asked Akshay if he was being trolled on social media, Khiladi Kumar replied, “Most people write about Canada. Which I don’t care about.” Karan then pointed out that trolls call him Kannada Kumar. To which he replied, “Yes, Kannada Kumar. Okay, call me that.”
Akshay is currently hoping for a good vacation for his recently released film Raksha Bandhan, which clashed with Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha at the box office. However, the boycott trends seriously affected the business of both the films.
