Houston Astros players, they’re just like us. When they do something great, they hop on Instagram and let everyone know about it. That’s what several players did after they wrapped up their fifth American League West title in the past six years Monday night.
Christian Vázquez, the catcher the Astros acquired from the Red Sox in July, provided us the best insight by going the extra mile and going live from inside the clubhouse during the celebration. When Astros personnel started handing out the goggles to protect the players’ eyes during the champagne showers, Vazquez knew it was go time, saying in the video, “Now, we go … Showtime.”
Yuli Gurriel didn’t go live, but he provided the fans a glimpse into that on-field team photo through a video that showed the absolute giddiness of his teammates.
Alex Bregman and Ryan Pressly took part in the clubhouse celebration, but they also returned to the field to soak in the moment with their wives and children. Coincidentally, it was the first game for Knox Bregman, Alex and Reagan’s son who was born in August, and Hunter Pressly, Ryan and Kat’s daughter born in July.
Celebrating a division title is old hat to a lot of Astros, but it was new for rookies Hunter Brown, Yainer Diaz and David Hensley, who all spent most of this season playing together at Class AAA Sugar Land, but were able to soak in the moment with the big league club at Tropicana Field.
The Astros wrapped up division on the first day of a seven-game road trip, so Houston fans won’t get to toast the players until they return home to face the Diamondbacks next week.
