Now, a video of Hema Malini recalling how Dharmendra was usually absent from daughter Esha and Ahana Deol’s life is doing rounds on the internet. Hema Malini was Dharmendra’s second wife. The veteran actor was previously married to Prakash Kaur. He has four children: sons Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol and daughters Vijeeta and Ajeita.

Hema Malini is a guest on Simi Garewal’s popular chat show. She was accompanied by her daughters Esha and Ahana Deol. During the interaction, when the host asked Hema Malini whether partners supporting each other is a must in a relationship, the actress shared that it is important to just make a few decisions. She further revealed that in her case, Dharmendra was not much involved in the decision-making regarding their daughters because he was busy with work commitments.
Hema Malini’s concept of parent/husband is a bit odd here. Did she raise them herself? Also, Dharamji as a father sounds very absent and patriarchal.

Dharmendra’s overprotectiveness
During the conversation, Hema Malini recalls how Dharmendra would be very particular about the way his daughters dress. “He likes them to always be in a salwar kameez. So, my daughters, the moment he comes, they will wear salwar kameez and come,” said the veteran star.
Then 17-year-old Esha Deol also agreed with her mother. She said, “He (Dharmendra) doesn’t like us to wear sleeveless tops and shorts. When she goes home, we wear trousers or a salwar kameez.” Esha also made some shocking revelations about Dharmendra’s orthodox mindset. The actress revealed how her father did not allow them to go out to events and activities as he preferred to stay at home. Esha acknowledged Hema Malini as the only source of support for her and Ahana. “Mum’s there so we get to go out and exercise,” she added.

The claims made by Hema Malini and Esha Deol did not go down well with Reddit users who criticized Dharmendra and his mindset in the comments. One user said: “With a dad like this who is selectively available, maybe they enjoyed him not being around much.” Another called the veteran star a “bright red flag”.
