The Danish Red Cross (DRC) is looking for an experienced mental health and psychosocial support specialist to join our global team of MHPSS delegates and work to ensure that people have the capacity to promote, achieve and maintain mental health and psychosocial well-being.

In this position, you will use your skills and experience to ensure the quality and further development of DRC’s approach to ‘Staff and Volunteer Care’ and ‘MHPSS in Health Care – particularly focusing on the integration of MHPSS into NHS and primary care programming health care”.

You will play a leading role in developing and disseminating the guidelines, policies and strategies required to ensure quality in these matters. You will be responsible for supporting capacity development, incl. developing and facilitating relevant training in these areas. In addition, you should provide strategic guidance within your areas of responsibility in accordance with international standards and ensure that the DRC is represented in relevant networks and international forums.

You will become a core member of the MHPSS global matrix team in the newly established Quality and Impact Unit. The position is based in the DRC regional office in Beirut, Lebanon, and frequent travel within the region and beyond is expected.

As a core member of the MHPSS matrix team, you will have a technical management line to the MHPSS Lead and a reporting line to the Head of Quality and Impact. You will work particularly closely with other members of the MHPSS core matrix team as well as the health matrix. In addition, you will coordinate and work with relevant colleagues in DRC headquarters and field offices, as well as other components of the Red Cross/Red Crescent movement.

Key tasks

  • Ensuring a harmonized and uniform DRC approach to MHPSS in health care.
  • Develop and prepare DRC strategy, guidelines and policy documents for MHPSS related to PHC and NCD.
  • Development and quality assurance of training packages for MHPSS in healthcare.
  • Lead the development and implementation of PFA and care for staff and volunteers.
  • Support capacity development particularly related to MHPSS in health, staff and volunteer care and national portfolios in the MENA region.
  • Advocacy and fundraising for MHPSS related to staff and volunteer health programs and care.
  • Document and share best practices/learning on MHPSS in health to support global institutional learning in DRC (including adaptation of M&E tools related to MHPSS in health).
  • Ensure coordination with relevant DRC offices and technical advisors (including health matrix).
  • Coordination/liaison with IFRC and ICRC at regional level.
  • Represent the DRC in the relevant external network/forums.
  • Contribute to the DRC MHPSS Matrix as a core team member by providing quality assurance, undertaking technical and surge missions (capability to deploy as part of the first rotation).

Experience and skills

  • Minimum of 7 years relevant professional experience in MHPSS after qualification.
  • Field experience in an emergency context generated by conflict or natural disaster.
  • Experience and skills in organizational capacity development, incl. mentoring and building skills in staff and volunteers on MHPSS, PGI, health and child protection.
  • Experience in program development and related fundraising vis à vis donors.
  • Ability to travel frequently within the region and beyond for periods of 1-4 weeks up to 50% of the time.
  • Advanced written and spoken English is required; Fluency in Arabic, French and/or Danish is an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated skills in developing MHPSS tools/materials and facilitating trainings.
  • Experience in one or more of the following: working in MHPSS services, working or volunteering with the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite

We offer The position is located in the DRC regional office in Beirut, Lebanon, this is a full-time position for 24 months. You will report to the Head of Technical Quality and Impact in Copenhagen.

The salary and working conditions will correspond to the collective agreement of the Danish Red Cross with HK and AC and will be between DKK 41,300 – 47,600 per month incl. pension, and according to qualification and experience. A private apartment is provided, free of charge.
