City head coach Mark Fotheringham was disappointed to taste defeat in his first game in charge and said the manner of goals conceded would need to be worked on.

Opening up on his thoughts on the game, Fotheringham didn’t shy away from pointing out Town’s shortcomings.

“It’s disappointing, I didn’t think we got it going in the first half even though we had better chances in the first ten or fifteen minutes.

“And then of course they go and score a set piece goal, so that’s my responsibility, I have to take care of that better with the coaching staff before Tuesday.

“I just felt in the second half we controlled it and then we made an individual error again with a bit of sloppy play, but that happens with young players, it comes with experience.”

Despite the better performance after the break, Mark admitted that Town should have been better and taken more of the chances they created.

“It’s lively that these are goals you can avoid, I felt in our build-up we could have been a lot more fluid and played more sharply, so that was disappointing.

“We’ve had six sessions in four days so we’ll put the work in and you can see the boys getting used to it as well.

“It will take time.

“It’s not an easy place to come to, but I came here today with a lot of hope, and the performance in the second half gave me a lot of hope in particular.

“We had to do better when we scored balls from wide areas, we had really good movement in the box and I’m really happy when I have attacking players on the pitch, so it looked good when we had Danny Ward and Jordan Rhodes up there, two guys who know where the target is.

“There’s definitely a lot of work to be done, and we’re not underestimating that.”
