Let’s begin with our top story. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan on Wednesday, 8th March, tweeted a thank you note for his fans, well-wishers and the audience who thronged to cinema halls to watch his latest feature, Pathaan. The Siddharth Anand directorial, which marked the return of Shah Rukh to the big screen after a gap of over four years, has emerged as the biggest Bollywood blockbuster. Recently, it toppled the Hindi version of Baahubali 2, which held the record for the highest collection with Rs 510.99 crore. Pathaan has so far netted Rs 518 crore, domestically. The film’s global figure is at a whopping Rs 1039 crore.

Moving on. Luv Ranjan’s Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles released on the occasion of Holi and appears to have had a ‘fair start’. The romantic comedy has cashed in well on the festival and the initial numbers seem decent and have already recorded around Rs 5.40 crore from the national chains. Considering Bollywood has witnessed only one raging success with Pathaan in 2023 as other films like Kartik Aaryan’s Shehzada and Akshay Kumar’s Selfiee fizzled out, there’s much hope pinned on the Luv Ranjan directorial as it sets a precedent for the upcoming Bollywood movies.

Actor Ranbir Kapoor says his upcoming film Animal made him realise how inadequate he is as an actor and pushed him to work hard. The crime drama, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga of Kabir Singh fame, also stars Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol and Rashmika Mandanna. Ranbir, who has around 30 days of work left on Animal, said his character in the movie is an “alpha” with shades of grey, unlike his real self. In a recent interview, he said – “It’s a new territory for me. Animal is a crime drama and a father-son story. It’s something audiences don’t expect me to do. So, I’m looking forward to it as this is completely out of my comfort zone.”

Meanwhile, Filmmaker Karan Johar on Wednesday, 8th March, said he has completed work on the Kashmir schedule of his next film Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. The upcoming family drama stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the lead alongside veteran actors Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi in key roles. Johar, who returns to direction with the film after 2016’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, took to his official Instagram account to share the work update and wrote – “Bidding farewell to beautiful Kashmir! This is Karan Johar signing off”. The film is written by Ishita Moitra, Shashank Khaitan and Sumit Roy. Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani is scheduled to hit the screens on July 28th.

Bollywood star Rani Mukerji has spent 26 successful years in the Hindi film industry. When she started her acting career, people had doubts about her voice. Even her Ghulam co-actor Aamir Khan convinced her to let the makers get her dialogues dubbed by a voice artist. But Mukerji eventually put her foot down. Mukerji, who is awaiting the release of her film Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway, recently shared how she only took constructive criticism and paid no heed to comments which came with an agenda during her career. Speaking to Pinkvilla, the actor said, “If I believed what people thought about my voice, then my voice would not have been loved by millions of people.”

Meanwhile, the first teaser of actors Aditya Roy Kapur and Mrunal Thakur’s thriller Gumraah dropped on social media on 8th of March, Wednesday, and it looks like a revamped version of one of the Ek Villain movies. In the promo, we see Aditya going up against the cops. Mrunal plays a detective chasing a serial killer on the loose. However, the teaser suggests that Aditya could very well be one of the bad guys himself. While the teaser looks pretty average, Aditya’s fans were delighted. The users flooded the comments section of the teaser with compliments. Helmed by Vardhan Ketkar and backed by Bhushan Kumar of T-Series, Gumraah is slated for a release on April 7 this year.

Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan has completed the Hyderabad schedule of his upcoming movie Fighter. Touted as India’s first aerial action magnum opus, the film is directed by Siddharth Anand of Pathaan fame. Hrithik announced the wrap by sharing a clip of the crew returning home on a plane after finishing the shoot. Also featuring Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor, Fighter is a homage to the valour, sacrifice and patriotism of the Indian armed forces. The film, backed by Viacom18 Studios and Marflix Pictures, will arrive in theatres on January 25, 2024. Hrithik was last seen in the neo-noir action crime thriller Vikram Vedha, the Hindi adaptation of the 2017 Tamil film of the same name.

Lastly, Actor and filmmaker Satish Kaushik died at the age of 66 on Wednesday, 8th of March in Delhi. The news of his death left the Hindi film industry in shock with many condoling his shocking demise. Satish suffered a heart attack while travelling in a car. His body will be brought to Mumbai today. His friend, actor Anupam Kher shared on social media – “I know “death is the ultimate truth of this world!” But I never thought in my dreams that I would write this thing about my best friend Satish while alive. Life will never be the same.”
