Let’s begin with our top story. Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan continues to rewrite history at the box office. The film has finally sailed past Aamir Khan’s Dangal collections. According to film trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Pathaan is expected to have collected approximately Rs. 22.5 crores on Saturday, 4th February, taking total collections in Hindi to Rs. 387 crores. Its all-India collection stands at Rs 401.4 crore if its collections in Tamil and Telugu languages are taken into account. Moreover, the spy thriller has done wonders overseas and crossed Rs 780 crore mark globally, as shared by YRF’s social media handle. Pathaan has emerged as the biggest Bollywood blockbuster and is now eyeing the collections of KGF 2 and Baahubali 2.
Meanwhile, after Pathaan’s massive box office success, director Siddharth Anand in an interview, explained how sometimes while making a film of this size, logic has to take a backseat for the sake of drama. The director said that commercial cinema has a lot to do with the filmmaker’s conviction. When asked about Pathaan being ‘over-the-top’, he cited the examples of Hum Aapke Hain Koun and Sholay. He said, “We don’t make action films. I have made three and every time I have tried to give the audience a little bit of that experience in the theatres, we get to feel the heightened reality but not disbelief.”
Bollywood actors Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani are preparing to tie the knot in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. Ahead of the wedding festivities, their close friends Karan Johar, Shahid Kapoor and wife Mira Rajput were spotted at the Mumbai airport. The couple, along with their families have already arrived at the Suryagarh Palace on Saturday, 4th February. It seems like guests will be lining up for the functions. Arti Shetty and producer Shabina Khan were also spotted at the airport, on their way to Jaisalmer. As per reports, Rohit Shetty will also attend the wedding. Though the couple has refrained from talking to the media about their wedding, the groom’s brother Harshad Malhotra and mother Rimma Malhotra confirmed the wedding.
Moving on. Actors Vicky Kaushal, Ammy Virk and Triptii Dimri are to star in Dharma Productions and Amazon Prime Video’s yet-to-be-titled film. Filmmaker Karan Johar took to social media to announce the project which is yet to be titled. The filmmaker didn’t share any details about the story or even the genre of the film. But he revealed that the movie will be directed by Anand Tiwari and will hit theatres on August 25, 2023. This is the second collaboration between Amazon Prime Video and Dharma Productions. Their first joint project is Sidharth Malhotra-led Yodha, set to be released on July 7, 2023.
Actor Sharman Joshi on Friday, 3rd February took fans down memory lane after he dropped a video also featuring his 3 Idiots co-stars R Madhavan and Aamir Khan. 3 Idiots’ Raju, Farhan and Rancho surprised their fans when they reunited to promote Sharman’s upcoming film Congratulations. The trio were seen in matching tracksuits and they also did a group hug which elated fans who saw the video. Fans called it a ‘visual treat’ to watch the trio in the same frame after a long time. One of the fans wrote, “So good to see you guys together after so long.” Another fan said, “The original trio. We wish to see this again.”
Meanwhile, Salaam Venky, featuring Bollywood star Kajol, is set to have its digital premiere on February 10 on ZEE5. Directed by Revathy and co-written by Kausar Munir and Sameer Arora, the slice-of-life drama was released in theatres on December 9th 2022. Kajol said working on Salaam Venky was an emotional experience for her and being a mother of two she could resonate with her character of Sujata. Salaam Venky is inspired by the true story of the young chess player Kolavennu Venkatesh, who had Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). He died in 2004. The movie also stars Vishal Jethwa, Rahul Bose, Prakash Raj and Priyamani in pivotal roles along with a cameo by Aamir Khan.
Actor-turned-writer Twinkle Khanna has said that her love story with co-star and husband Akshay Kumar began due to boredom. Her beautiful play of words hinted that her boredom played a major role while their romance was new and she also added that she used to take up the arduous task of jogging with Akshay. In her column, Twinkle wrote, “This eventually led to matrimony and two kids with slightly more athletic genes.” She continued, “It’s been over two decades and we have built a life that encompasses two children, our extended families, work, friends, dogs, independence and stability.’ Twinkle and Akshay got married in 2001 and they recently celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary.
