In our top story. Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani’s latest film, Satyaprem Ki Katha was released in theatres on June 29th, Friday. It had a decent start at the box office and saw a jump in earnings over the weekend. The film earned Rs 9.25 crore and Rs 7 crore in the first two days, respectively. On the third day, it earned Rs 10.15 crore, bringing the total collection to Rs 26.40 crore, as reported by industry tracker Sacnilk. With that, the film became India’s sixth-highest opener for a Hindi film in 2023, despite receiving mixed reviews from critics. Helmed by Sameer Vidhwans, Satyaprem Ki Katha also stars Gajraj Rao, Supriya Pathak, Anuradha Patel, Rajpal Yadav and Shikha Talsania.
Moving on. The makers of the upcoming film The Crew, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tabu, Kriti Sanon and Diljit Dosanjh, announced the film’s official release date on Sunday, 2nd July. The Crew is all set to hit the theatres on March 22, 2024. Helmed by Rajesh Krishnan, the film is produced by Ekta Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor. It is a story of three women and is touted as a laugh-riot, set against the backdrop of the struggling airline industry. However, their destinies lead to some unwarranted situations and they get caught in a web of lies. Actor Kapil Sharma will also be seen in a special cameo role in the film.
Ever since Sandeep Reddy Vanga announced Animal with Ranbir Kapoor, fans have been looking forward to the actioner. The team recently dropped a short pre-teaser, announcing that the film will release on August 11. However, Animal’s release has been reportedly pushed and it is now eyeing a December release. While the film’s team is yet to make an official announcement, trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to social media to share the news. He wrote – “Yes, the film has been postponed. A new release date will be announced in the coming days.” As per a Bollywood Hungama report, the film’s VFX is the reason for the delay. Alongside Ranbir Kapoor, Animal also stars Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol and Rashmika Mandanna.
Meanwhile, Filmmaker Anurag Basu’s upcoming film “Metro… In Dino” is set to be released in theatres on March 29, 2024. The film, starring Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkana Sensharma, Ali Fazal and Fatima Sana Shaikh, was earlier supposed to release in December. Billed as an anthology of “heartwarming stories of contemporary couples”, the film is produced by Bhushan Kumar of T-Series and Anurag Basu Productions Pvt Ltd. The makers said in a statement – “Get ready to be swept away by the heartwarming stories of modern-day couples brought to life by a talented ensemble cast.” The music for the film has been composed by Basu’s long-time collaborator, Pritam.
Actor John Abraham is all set for his upcoming high-octane drama ‘The Diplomat’, the release date of which was unveiled over the weekend. John took to Instagram and shared a poster with the release announcement. In the poster, John is seen in a suit and hands in his pockets. Sharing the poster, he wrote, “Some wars are fought even outside the battlefield. Prepare for a new kind of hero as the high-octane drama “TheDiplomat” gets a release date!” Based on an incredible true story, ‘The Diplomat’ is directed by Shivam Nair, who is known for his work in films like ‘Naam Shabana’ and much-acclaimed web series’ like ‘Special Ops’ and ‘Mukhbir’. The Diplomat is scheduled to release on January 11, 2024.
Filmmaker Atlee, who is all set to make his Hindi directorial debut with the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jawan, is now collaborating with actor Varun Dhawan. Their upcoming film, tentatively titled VD18, is scheduled to hit theatres on May 31, 2024. Varun took to Instagram to share the exciting news with his fans. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh also shared details about the film on Twitter, revealing that it will be an action-entertainer produced by Murad Khetani, along with Atlee. It will be helmed by Tamil director Kalees, known for his debut film Kee in 2019. Atlee, known for his successful Tamil films, is venturing into Hindi cinema with Jawan, also featuring Nayanthara in the lead role. Jawan will release on September 7.
Meanwhile, actor Arshad Warsi, who is riding on the success of his latest release Asur 2, recently opened up about being replaced by Salman Khan as the host of Bigg Boss, and by Akshay Kumar in Jolly LLB 2. Talking to Amar Ujala, Arshad said, “Jolly LLB 3 is currently in the making and you will see Akshay teaming up with me in the film. This was the original plan – I’d feature in the first film, he’ll do the second.” Opening up about Salman taking over as the host of Bigg Boss, Arshad said, “I do believe Salman Khan is the best host the show could have. No one could have done that job better than him.”
Lastly, in some tragic news. Actor Harish Magon, who featured in Hindi films like Gol Maal, Namak Halaal and Inkaar, passed away on June 1st, Saturday. Cine And TV Artistes’ Association shared the news on Twitter. Magon, an FTII graduate, was also seen in films like Chupke Chupke, Khushboo, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, and Shahenshah. Harish also ran an acting institute, Harish Magon Acting Institute, in Mumbai’s Juhu. Film historian Pavan Jha took to Twitter to mourn the demise of the actor. He shared a video from the 1975 film Aandhi and wrote, “Harish Magon – will always be remembered for those cute cameos in Hindi Cinema.”
