Let’s begin with our top story. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was a co-producer on Alia Bhatt’s Darlings and as per director Jasmeet K Reen, he gave important input on the film’s script. At a recent roundtable, the director revealed that the star after reading the script said- “Make sure you don’t let go of Hamza in the second half.” So, based on his suggestion, actor Vijay Varma who played Hamza, the abusive husband to Alia’s character in the film, was given a lot more to do. Vijay received a lot of appreciation for his performance, upon “Darlings” release on Netflix. In an earlier interview, Vijay shared that he was proud to have been employed by Shah Rukh Khan.
Meanwhile, music composers Jatin-Lalit were known for composing some of the most popular Hindi film albums of the ’90s. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai were among their biggest hits of the time. In a recent interview, Lalit Pandit also recalled how their association with Shah Rukh Khan brought out the best in them. Lalit shared that they felt a certain responsibility when composing for Shah Rukh Khan’s films and had to deliver “nothing less than best.”
In a recent interview, actor Neena Gupta recalled that the work culture in the 1980s was quite harsh and how it translated into a toxic atmosphere on the set. Neena was recently asked if she could recall a strange anecdote from her time in the industry in those days. In response, she spoke about the time when she broke down after an acclaimed director verbally abused her in front of everyone. Neena Gupta then laughed off the incident and said that this kind of work culture is not practised today, but soon corrected herself. She said; “I don’t think this happens today, or maybe it does, but I wouldn’t know as I’m not in the same position.”
“Moving on. Bollywood star Ajay Devgn said that he would like someone to remake his Hindi debut movie, Phool Aur Kaante. The film, helmed by Sandesh Kohli, came out in 1991.
Recently, the star took to his social media handle to share a clip where he is asked which movie of his would he like to be remade. When asked if he could “”still ace the iconic split”” the actor said perhaps he could manage “”with some practice””. The post was liked by actor Arjun Kapoor, and Ajay’s fans bombarded the comments section, requesting he make a sequel. Devgn was last seen in the successful thriller Drishyam 2. He will be next seen in “”Bholaa”” with his Drishyam co-star, Tabu.”
“Anees Bazmee, the director of one of the biggest Hindi hits of the year, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, recently revealed that he would often write scenes on set early in his career. He recalled that the culture of submitting bound scripts to actors did not exist at the time.
Anees said that while making “”Welcome””, which was released in 2007, the scene in which Nana Patekar’s character was shooting for a film and is supposed to be riding a horse was also written on the set. He also mentioned that before the culture of bound scripts was established, he would only sleep for one hour a day while filming, to keep up with writing scripts for that day.”
“Meanwhile, the nominations for the 23rd edition of the IIFA (International Indian Film Academy Awards) are out. And as expected, Brahmastra, Gangubai Kathiawadi and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 dominate the nominations list. Alia Bhatt’s performances get her two nominations for Best Performance in a Leading Role (Female) for both Darlings and Gangubai Kathiawadi.
The three-day event is set to begin on February 9 in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.”
Actors Tamannaah Bhatia, Rakul Preet Singh, Huma Qureshi, Alaya F and Bhumi Pednekar opened up about shooting intimate scenes in films, the presence of intimacy co-ordinators, and the constant barrage of questions they are normally subjected to. Tamannaah said that male actors are far more awkward than women while shooting such scenes. Speaking at a recent roundtable interview, Huma noted that there is always a sense of nervousness and discomfort before an intimate scene is shot, to which Tamannaah answered, “It’s not about men or women. Sometimes guys are a lot shyer and they’re a lot more worried.”
“Kangana Ranaut, who will soon be making her solo directorial debut with the period drama Emergency, recently took to Instagram to share anecdotes from her childhood.
Kangana wrote that many people “whine about their childhood and blame their parents/parenting for most of their failures.” The Dhaakad actor said she felt very differently about it. The note was her way to thank her parents, and parents everywhere who do “selfless acts to dedicate one’s time, emotions, energies and earnings to their children.”
The Queen actor mentioned that parents today pamper their children from the moment they’re born, but her parents were not the same way. She wrote that if “they misbehaved, her parents gave them a tight slap and was disciplined””
Lastly, Yo Yo Honey Singh, who is currently promoting his version of “Yai Re”, recently revealed that when he met Badshah as a music producer, the rapper wanted to rap only in English. Honey also revealed that Badshah’s name was Cool Equal at the time. In a chat with Siddharth Kannan, Honey revealed, “He came to me to be launched as an English rapper. It took me two years to convince him to rap in Hindi.” Honey also opened up about his current relationship with Badshah. “We met at a Diwali party 2 years ago. We drank and danced together. We are all brothers. There are no differences between us. People are always making stuff up,” he said.
