Meanwhile, Bollywood actor Alia Bhatt’s maternal grandfather Narendra Razdan is said to be in critical condition. Reports suggest that he is currently hospitalised at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. Alia, who was scheduled to attend the IIFA Awards in Abu Dhabi, promptly cancelled her plans and returned from the airport upon learning about her grandfather’s situation. A source close to the family, told Times Of India, “Mr. Narendra Razdan is Soni Razdan’s father and Alia’s grandfather. He has been in the Breach Candy hospital for quite some time now. He had a lung infection which got worse. He’s 95, and as of now, he’s in the sunset hours.”

Commemorating the 140th birth anniversary of Hindutva ideologue V.D. Savarkar, the makers of the upcoming film Swatantrya Veer Savarkar released the first teaser of the biopic. Helmed by Randeep Hooda, who is also playing the role of Savarkar, the film is produced by Anand Pandit, Sandeep Singh, Sam Khan and Yogesh Rahar. The 73-second teaser of the film begins with Savarkar’s monologue: “The freedom struggle lasted for 90 years. But it was fought only by a handful of people. The rest were hungry for power.” With Hooda looking seamlessly like Savarkar and incidents showing how the Indians were treated by the British, the teaser promises an engaging period drama.

Moving on. Ace filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s Kennedy recently premiered at the 76th Cannes Film Festival and received a seven-minute standing ovation at the Grand Lumiere Theatre. Kashyap’s latest conversation with Hindustan Times is also currently the talk of the town. This is because he has now spoken about the controversial film, The Kerala Story, after previously opposing the call for a ban on it. He said – “You can’t escape politics in today’s day and age. A lot of films that we call propaganda films like The Kerala Story are being made. I’m totally against banning anything but it is a propaganda film. That’s political. I don’t want to make a film that sounds like counter-propaganda.”

Sunny Leone plays a powerful character named Charlie in Anurag Kashyap’s film Kennedy. While in France, the actor spoke to the media about transitioning from the adult film industry. Speaking to Brut, Sunny opened up about her ‘infamous’ interview with a senior journalist from 2016, which made a lot of noise. She said – “When it played, I had so many media houses and my fans transcribing it for me. Also, the backlash that he faced was incredible. No one should be treated that way. It was the worst feeling.” Sunny further mentioned that she is not ashamed of her past, which has made her who she is today.

Meanwhile, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan recently starred in Mani Ratnam’s directorial Ponniyin Selvan 2 and got lots of praise and love for her role. Her husband and fellow actor Abhishek Bachchan also revealed how he complimented his wife Aishwarya for her work in the film. In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, he shared – “I told her it was her best work to date as an actor and an unbelievable feat to accomplish with a role like that. It is very layered and very difficult to ace, but the pro that she is, she did fantastic. I’m so proud of her.” Earlier, after the release of the film PS2, Abhishek took to Twitter too to praise Aishwarya and the film’s team.

Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who was recently seen in the film Jogira Sara Ra Ra, has opened up about how he can’t criticise mediocre actors today because they have influential contacts in the industry. In an interview with Zoom Entertainment, Nawazuddin said, “Today, mediocre actors are getting attention because they have money and powerful friends who hype them up and create opportunities for them. Because such actors have powerful friends in the industry, we know that we cannot speak against them. Be it Irrfan Khan or Manoj Bajpayee, nobody has made a big film with us. They keep calling us great actors, but no one has ever invested Rs 50 crore in us.”

Lastly, Actor Karishma Tanna started her acting career with television’s most popular show, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. However, this beginning didn’t promise her acting opportunities in the movies even though she was a popular name in the TV industry. In a new interview with Bollywood Bubble, Tanna shared – “It is dejection, humiliation and at the same time. Why are they putting an actor into a category? Why can’t lines be blurred? In the past, there were thick lines between TV, film and theatre actors. Now, I think things are changing.” Karishma, who starred in films like Sanju, will be next seen in Hansal Mehta’s Scoop which will start streaming on Netflix from June 2.
