In our top story. Sunny Deol‘s Gadar 2 refuses to slow down, even weeks after its release. Industry tracker Sacnilk’s early estimates reveal that the movie is now on the verge of achieving the monumental Rs 500 crore benchmark, with its total domestic earnings at Rs 456.95 crore. Demonstrating unwavering consistency into its third week, Gadar 2 has become the fastest film to breach the Rs 450 crore mark at the box office, outpacing the achievements of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and Prabhas’s Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. Gadar 2’s release coincided with OMG 2, and although the Pankaj Tripathi and Akshay Kumar-starrer faced tough competition, it managed to hold its ground, amassing a total collection of Rs 135.02 crore.

 

Meanwhile, amid the Gadar 2’s sensational success, speculations surfaced regarding Sunny Deol’s increasing his remuneration to Rs 50 crore. In a recent conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Sunny dismissed these reports. He clarified that his fees for future projects will be decided when he signs his next film. He shared – “First of all, I feel money matters are very personal. No one shares exactly what he or she earns, even to their close ones. Secondly, what I charge or don’t charge will be decided when I sign my next film. Right now, we are all trying to process of enormity of the success of Gadar 2.” Sunny also emphasised that he doesn’t engage in negotiations.

 

Despite facing tough competition from Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 and Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2, Ayushmann Khurrana’s latest comedy-drama Dream Girl 2 appears to be standing firm and witnessing a noteworthy performance at the box office. According to early estimates shared by industry tracker Sacnilk, Dream Girl 2’s total India nett currently stands at Rs 40.71 crore. The Raaj Shaandilyaa directorial witnessed an overall 48.85 per cent Hindi occupancy. Dream Girl 2 is a sequel to Khurrana’s 2019 hit of the same title. The actor reprises his role of Karam, who decides to cross-dress as Pooja to make enough money to marry the love of his life, played by Ananya Panday.

 

Moving on. Superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s much-awaited Jawan will finally have its grand trailer launch, before the actioner releases worldwide on September 7th. With only a prevue that was launched in July, the makers have locked the date for its trailer. According to trade sources, Jawan’s trailer will be out on August 31st – six days before the film sees a wide-scale release. SRK, who returns to screens months after the historic success of Pathaan, will be seen in a double role of a father and son in Jawan. The film marks the first collaboration between him and director Atlee, known for Tamil hits with Vijay like Theri, Mersal and Bigil. Jawan’s music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander.

 

Tushar Hiranandani’s directorial Sri, a biopic on visually impaired industrialist Srikanth Bolla, was set to hit cinema halls on September 15th. The makers have now decided to push its release date to avoid a box-office clash with Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan. Sharing an exclusive update about Sri, the director told indianexpress.com – “The film will now release sometime in December.” When asked the reason for the same, he smiled and said – “I can’t compete with Shah Rukh Khan.” Sri also stars Alaya F, Jyotika and Sharad Kelkar. The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar and Nidhi Parmar Hiranandani.

 

Meanwhile, R Madhavan, who was recently honoured with the National Award for his film Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, is quite impressed by the film The Vaccine War. The film helmed by Vivek Agnihotri is based on India’s process of crafting a successful Covid-19 vaccine. Tagging Agnihotri, Madhavan wrote on his social media – “Just saw “THE VACCINE WAR” and blown out of my mind by the spectacular sacrifices and achievements of the Indian scientific community, which made India’s very first vaccine during the most challenging period… told by a Master Storyteller who makes you cheer, applaud and weep all at the same time.” The Vaccine War is scheduled for a theatrical release on September 28th.

 

Actor Imran Khan took to Instagram to reminisce about his 2011 film Delhi Belly. Sharing behind-the-scene pictures from the film, Imran wrote – “Every single day that we worked on that film, I was sure of two things; first, that it was a once-in-a-lifetime movie, the kind that you feel lucky to be a part of. And second, that there was no way the Censor Board would ever let us release this thing. I’m glad I was only wrong on the second count.” Also starring Vir Das and Kunaal Roy Kapur, Delhi Belly was backed by Aamir Khan Productions and UTV Motion Pictures. The film was released after being given an ‘A’ certificate for its profanity and sexual content.

 

Lastly, in a new interview with Humans of Bombay, actor Sushmita Sen spoke about the time she decided to adopt her daughter, Renee. The 47-year-old actor shared – ” I wanted to be a mother at 30, and there was a child who needed a mother. Perfect fit. I knew I was ready for it.” The decision didn’t go down well with her mother, who, Sushmita said, was “furious” and didn’t quite understand why she wanted to adopt a child at such a young age. She added – “My father was more patient. It was with his support, that the courts finally gave me Renee. My father signed off everything in her name.”
