In our top story. Actor Ayushmann Khurrana’s Dream Girl 2 has got off to a great start at the domestic box office. The film has collected Rs 24.71 crores within days of its release, as reported by industry tracker Sacnilk. Directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, Dream Girl 2 is a sequel to Khurrana’s 2019 hit of the same title. The actor reprises his role of Karam, who decides to cross-dress as Pooja to make enough money to marry the love of his life, played by Ananya Panday. In a press note, the makers said the film has turned out to be Khurrana’s “biggest opener to date”, surpassing the opening figure of his 2019 film, Bala which earned Rs 10.15 crore.

 

Meanwhile, Ayushmann Khurrana said he is happy with the audience’s response to his latest release Dream Girl 2. Khurrana told PTI – “Dream Girl is a franchise that has given me a lot of love and I’m really happy with the start that Dream Girl 2 has got at the box office. As an entertainer, it feels amazing to bring people to theatres and experience them having a great time.” Dream Girl 2 also features Ananya Panday, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Seema Pahwa, Manjot Singh and Abhishek Banerjee, among others.

 

A thriller from India, ‘Stolen’ will have its world premiere at the 2023 edition of the Venice Film Festival, the makers announced. The 90-minute Hindi film will be screened at the festival under the Orizzonti Extra section, which showcases ”a selection of up to 10 works aimed at innovating and demonstrating creative originality in the relationship with the public they are meant for”. Set against the backdrop of a remote rural railway station in India, Stolen is directed by Karan Tejpal. It stars Abhishek Banerjee, Shubham and Mia Maelzer. Banerjee, known for Stree, Paatal Lok and Bhediya, told PTI – ” The film’s representation of India at the prestigious Venice Film Festival is undoubtedly a monumental achievement. I am honoured.”

 

Moving on. Superstar Salman Khan, who debuted in Bollywood with Biwi Ho To Aisi, in 1988, marked 35 years in the film industry recently. Salman took to Twitter to share a video montage featuring snippets from his iconic films, from Maine Pyar Kiya to Tiger Zinda Hai and expressed gratitude to his fans for their unwavering support. He captioned the post – “35 years went by like 35 days. Thank you for your love.” On the work front, Salman Khan recently hosted Bigg Boss OTT 2. He is set to star in the highly anticipated Yash Raj Films’ Tiger 3 alongside Katrina Kaif and Emraan Hashmi, who will be seen in a negative role.

 

Fans of Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan were surprised when an image of the two stars together was recently released. While the details of their collaboration are not revealed yet, SRK spoke about working with Big B during his AskSRK Twitter session on 26 August. In response to a fan question, he wrote – “It was so much fun to work with Mr. Bachchan after so many years. Came back from the shoot inspired and blessed. And just to let you know he beat me in the run!” The image showed Shah Rukh and Amitabh running together, dressed in black. Shah Rukh and Amitabh last shared the screen in Karan Johar’s 2006 film Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.

 

Meanwhile, Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 has already crossed KGF 2’s Hindi collection to become the third highest-grosser of all time and is now just behind Baahubali 2 and Pathaan. The actor recently opened up about his career and struggle. During an interview with BBC UK, Sunny shared how he had to go through a struggling phase after Gadar’s success. He said – ” Before Gadar, I had no issues. I wasn’t getting much work even when Gadar was a much-appreciated film of the century. Suddenly, no projects came up.” Sunny also shared that he never felt the need to work with ‘big people or big companies’ as he didn’t relate to them and vice versa.

 

Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah has directed ‘Man Woman Man Woman’, a short film that depicts love and companionship across two generations. Also written by Shah, the 26-minute short film has been released on the official YouTube channel of Royal Stag Barrel Select Large Short Films. The film, which revolves around the complexities of relationships in the modern world, features his actor-wife Ratna Pathak Shah and son Vivaan Shah along with actors Tarun Dhanrajgir and Saba Azad. Shah told PTI in a statement – ” It is an attempt to show how uncomplicated relationships can be when love is the guiding light. I hope the audience finds some inspiration in it.”

 

Lastly, actor Vijay Varma in a recent chat said that he gets multiple offers to similar roles like Darlings and Dahaad, but he has been refusing them all. Varma told Film Companion – ” It’s not like I am saying no to bad guys, I want them to surprise me. Darlings surprised me. I’ve never seen a man like Hamza on screen. That was very interesting.” Vijay then shared that he knew that he could play “only one serial killer in this career,” because it could get boring otherwise, and that’s when he chose Dahaad. He added – “So now I am saying no to two serial killer stories a week.”
