Let’s begin with our top story. After much drama over who was attending the 68th annual Filmfare Awards or not, the ceremony concluded grandly in Mumbai on Thursday night, 28th April, and winners proudly posed with the black lady in their hands. Alia Bhatt won the coveted Best Actor Female award and her film Gangubai Kathiawadi was declared the Best film. Sanjay Leela Bhansali completed the sweep and won the Best Director award. Bhumi Pednekar, Rajkummar Rao and Sheeba Chaddha won Critics’ Choice awards for Badhaai Do and the social comedy-drama was also declared the Best Film – Critics’ Choice.

 

Moving on. Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan has crossed Rs 100 crore at the domestic box office. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the Farhad Samji directorial earned around Rs 4.50 crore over the weekend, taking the total collection to Rs 100.30 crore. The numbers might seem encouraging but it’s nothing compared to Salman’s stardom. His last theatrical release Dabangg 3 in 2019 had a lifetime collection of Rs 230 crore. However, this latest release still happens to be one of the few successful Hindi movies of 2023, after Pathaan and Tu Jhooti Main Makkaar.

 

Superstar Salman Khan says he is aware that the death threats he has been receiving are serious and has hence started being “very careful” with his way of life, adjusting to changes it has brought along with it, such as being surrounded by gunmen in public spaces. During the latest episode of Rajat Sharma’s show, Aap Ki Adalat, Salman was asked about his beefed-up security. He said – “Yes, there is security. I can no longer walk on the street alone or go cycling. But I do have a problem with this amped-up security. When we are in traffic, there are so many security vehicles, which also causes inconvenience to other people.”

 

Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra and her husband Nick Jonas posed on the red carpet at the Met Gala 2023 on May 1st, as the two looked stunning in black and white ensembles adhering to this year’s theme ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan is all set to make his directorial debut. The young filmmaker will helm a web show for Netflix. The details of the show titled ‘Stardom’ was revealed on Monday, May 1st. It is said that the six-episode series will be set against the film industry backdrop. It will be bankrolled by Shah Rukh Khan’s production house Red Chillies Entertainment. A source had told Pinkvilla, “Aryan is penning a script, with a bunch of writers, for Red Chillies Entertainment’s web series. One of them is Lior Raz. The work has already begun on the project and it may kick off by the end of the year. “

 

Lending support to same-sex marriage, actor Kangana Ranaut has said people’s preferences do not matter when their “hearts are one”. The National Award winner further described marriage as “a bond of love”. Kangana told reporters in Haridwar on Sunday, 30th April – “Marriage is a bond of love. When people’s hearts are one… what their preference is, what can we say about that?” Apurva Asrani, co-writer of Kangana Ranaut’s 2017 film Simran, thanked the actor for her support, at a time when most stars are shy of speaking up. Asrani, who is openly gay, wrote on Twitter – “Kangana Ranaut speaks for #marriageequality. Something that most movie stars have been shy of doing. From one Queen to another, Thank you.”

 

Meanwhile, the trailer of Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Neha Sharma’s upcoming film Jogira Sara Ra Ra was released on Monday, May 1st. The movie revolves around Jogi played by Nawazuddin, a matchmaker, and Dimple played by Neha, who approaches him with a request of getting rid of her fiance. As Jogi attempts to assist Dimple in her difficult situation, he faces numerous challenges along the way. Despite his best efforts, things take a turn when Dimple is abducted, and a game of ransom begins. The trailer of the film assures viewers of an engaging storyline. Helmed by Kushan Nandy, the film will be released in cinemas on May 12.

 

Lastly, while many were wondering why actor Dino Morea gradually disappeared from the Hindi film industry, the star himself has now opened up about why he has been rejecting many roles. Morea said in a recent interview with DNA – “I have been dying to do something over here in Bollywood. But, I have been receiving terrible offers. The work that has been coming to me has been not great. It’s a conscious decision to try and pick decent roles that would take my career one step ahead, rather than five steps behind.”
