Let’s begin with our top story. Director Siddharth Anand’s action-thriller Pathaan continued to dominate the box office charts for the seventh consecutive day, and it is not showing any signs of slowing down, both in the domestic and international markets. Pathaan became the fastest Hindi-language film to cross the Rs 300 crore mark domestically. It took seven days to hit the benchmark, as compared to the 10 days that Hindi versions of Baahubali 2 took and the 11 days it took KGF 2 to pass the same milestone. Also, Box Office Worldwide reported that the total collection of the film overseas is 28.75 million dollars, which brings its worldwide collection to Rs 634 cr.

 

Meanwhile, the streaming giant Netflix unveiled the trailer of its four-part docu-series, The Romantics on Wednesday, 1st February. The series is a celebration of the movies of filmmaker Yash Chopra and his production house Yash Raj Films. The trailer offers a sneak peek into three generations of actors — Rishi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Ranbir Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan and Ranveer Singh, among others, talking about the late filmmaker Yash Chopra. All Bollywood movie fans are in for a treat as it gives an insight into the mind of the man behind several hits of the Hindi cinema. Directed by Indian Matchmaking fame Smriti Mundhra, the series will stream on Netflix on February 14.

 

Filmmaker Rohit Shetty will make his digital debut with the Amazon Prime Video series The Indian Police Force starring Sidharth Malhotra in the lead role. Shetty recently shared a video on his social media showing a speeding car flipping in the air. He clarified that the video has no visual effects. In the video, a yellow car is seen flipping in the air, as it hits another car. Shetty, who is known for his action films like the Ajay Devgn-starrer Singham, is seen walking towards the car, which lies upside down on the road. Indian Police Force marks the first collaboration between Rohit Shetty and Sidharth Malhotra. Besides the Shershah actor, the series also stars Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Vivek Oberoi.

 

Moving on. Ananya Panday will star in a cyber-thriller directed by Vikramaditya Motwane. The actor took to Instagram and shared a photo with the filmmaker, expressing her excitement and gratitude. In her post, the actor also mentioned that she and her mother Bhavana Panday had enjoyed Motwane’s Udaan and that it was their favourite film. In a statement about the production, Motwane said, “The story will be completely told via the screens we consume – computers, phones and televisions.” The movie recently went on floors. Vikramaditya Motwane has won much acclaim for his films Udaan, Trapped and Bhavesh Joshi Superhero. Besides the cyber-thriller, Ananya Panday has Kho Gaye Hum Kahan and Dream Girl 2 in the pipeline.

 

Veteran actor Anupam Kher says his upcoming feature Shiv Shastri Balboa is a special film as it allowed him to play a title role after being around in showbiz for over three decades. Kher, who co-stars with Neena Gupta in Shiv Shastri Balboa, said he is happy that they have received the opportunity to finally shoulder a film. Directed by Ajayan Venugopalan, the movie is billed as a fascinating tale of the survival of an Indian in a small town in America. Shiv Shastri Balboa also features The Family Man star Sharib Hashmi and Nargis Fakhri of Rockstar fame. Shiv Shastri Balboa will hit the theatres on February 10.

 

Meanwhile, Bollywood star Alia Bhatt is creating waves in her career, with hits such as Gangubai Kathiawadi, RRR and Brahmastra, all in the last year. She also debuted as a producer in 2022 with Darlings, and her performance in the film was widely appreciated. On the personal front, she had a landmark year that included marriage with longtime boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor and motherhood. The couple welcomed their daughter Raha in November 2022. At the recent press launch of the Zee Cine Awards 2023, the actor said that her daughter has become her number one priority. Alia also expressed her joy at returning to the stage and shared how she doesn’t remember the last time she performed at an award show.

 

Actor-filmmaker Kangana Ranaut described herself as a ‘sensible and reasonable’ person who is unfit for politics. She said in a new tweet that those who ‘hate/fear’ her justify it because of her political beliefs. Mere months ago, at a session at Panchayat Aaj Tak, Kangana had said that she is open to joining politics. The actor recently returned to Twitter after being permanently suspended by the platform a couple of years ago. She was found to have repeatedly violated the platform’s rules regarding hate speech. Kangana will next be seen in Emergency, playing the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, a film which she has also directed.

 

Lastly, Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap recently talked about the series of difficulties that he had to face during and after the pandemic, including his heart attack and how he was compelled to quit social media for a while. He also addressed the idea of Gangs of Wasseypur 3, saying that he will make it when there’s ‘nothing else to do’ and cash is needed for survival. Talking about his heart attack in 2021, the filmmaker said, “Well, it happened, there was a lot of stress and anxiety. I wanted to work, but no projects were happening.” The filmmaker had to undergo an angioplasty in 2021.
