In our top story. Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made her appearance at the Cannes Film Festival 2023 on 18th May. The actor wore an exquisite cape dress by Valentino. To complement the outfit, she opted for striking clear PVC high heels. Fans on the internet went gaga over her look and called her ‘the Cannes queen’. One fan wrote – “It’s her charisma that’s working for more than 20 years. No matter what and how the red carpet looks are over there in Cannes.” Aishwarya made her Cannes debut in 2002 and a year later, she served on the jury, making her the first Indian actress to do so. She has graced the red carpet multiple times since then.
Meanwhile, the ongoing Cannes Film Festival 2023 is seeing a trail of Indian celebrities attending the prestigious film festival. After Sara Ali Khan, Urvashi Rautela, and Manushi Chhillar, actors Mrunal Thakur and Vijay Varma were seen at the event. This is Mrunal’s Cannes debut and she wore a stylish black lace pantsuit, complemented by a dazzling sequined jacket. Sharing the photos, Mrunal wrote in an Instagram post, “I didn’t come this far to only come this far.” On the other hand, Vijay Varma, who was recently seen in the Prime Video series Dahaad, shared his photo from his red carpet outing too. The actor is back at the festival this year, as a part of the Indian delegation.
Gulshan Devaiah, who was recently seen in the Prime Video series Dahaad, spoke about nepotism in the film industry and pointed out that acting cannot be measured by only merit, so the idea is flawed. In an interview with Chalchitra Talks, Gulshan said – “A performance or someone’s talent is not quantifiable. You can have an educated opinion at best but it’s still a subjective opinion. You want them to like you because that might lead to an opportunity.” He shared that nepotism is a privilege but, most people who are pointing this out, are privileged as well. He said – “They are doing it for themselves, they are not sincere about this.”
Moving on. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan recently launched his wife Gauri Khan’s coffee table book, My Life in Design. Gauri, took to her Instagram handle to thank Shah Rukh for being a part of her journey and dropped beautiful pictures with her husband. Gauri wrote in the caption – “Thank you for being part of my journey.” Fans on the internet praised the couple. A fan wrote – “Some couples just have it, and these souls do, God bless you always.” In her book, Gauri has shared her journey as a designer, accompanied by exclusive photographs featuring her family and her Mumbai residence, Mannat. Additionally, it highlights significant projects undertaken by Gauri, offering readers a glimpse into her creativity.
Sanya Malhotra is very excited about her upcoming release, the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jawan. The actor has an interesting lineup this year —Kathal, Sam Bahadur with Vicky Kaushal and the Hindi remake of the Malayalam film ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’. In an interview with indianexpress.com, Sanya shared how working with SRK in Jawan is a dream come true for her. She said – “I am excited because I can finally talk about it. I always hoped to work with SRK one day, so it is a dream come true. I cannot wait to see myself around him. It is a dream role, a dream film. Just being around him makes me happy.”
Meanwhile, Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani reunite after the blockbuster success of last year’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 in the upcoming film Satyaprem Ki Katha. The film has been described as the ‘musical romance of the year’ in its first teaser, which was unveiled on Thursday, 18th May. Kartik’s character is named Satyaprem, while Kiara plays Katha. The one-minute teaser doesn’t reveal the plot, but it gives audiences a glimpse of the high emotion they can expect from the film, directed by Sameer Vidwans. The film also stars Supriya Pathak Kapur, Gajraj Rao, Siddharth Randheria, Anuradha Patel, Rajpal Yadav and Shikha Talsania. The film will be released in theatres on June 29.
Actor Sharad Kelkar has once again dubbed for Telugu actor Prabhas and this time for director Om Raut’s film Adipurush. The makers of the movie, which is based on Ramayan, recently released its trailer with better VFX. In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Sharad said that he hasn’t seen the final cut but whatever he has seen is ‘very good’. The actor said – “I have not seen the final copy. I have just dubbed for it. Not many people have complained about dubbing so it must be okay. However, I can say that the content, the presentation and the thought process behind the film are brilliant.”
Lastly, Veteran actor Zeenat Aman on Wednesday, 17th May, said that words like ‘diva’, ‘bombshell’ and ‘glamour’ have been used to describe her in the past and she is now okay with not being called these anymore. Sharing pictures of herself from a photoshoot, Zeenat wrote, “The kids came up with a concept, I agreed to be their clothes horse, and now I must confess I had a blast! Fashion can be intimidating and let’s be honest, it’s usually geared towards being ‘sexy’. That’s certainly been my experience of it. I’ve heard the words ‘diva’, ‘bombshell’ and ‘glamour’ enough to never need to hear them again in my life!”
