In our top story. Akshay Kumar’s next feature film The Great Indian Rescue will release on October 5. Also starring Parineeti Chopra, the movie is based on the life of mining engineer Jaswant Singh Gill, who rescued 64 miners from a flooded quarry in West Bengal in 1989. A resident of Amritsar, Gill received several awards for his act of bravery. He died in 2019 at the age of 80. The Great Indian Rescue marks a reunion of Akshay and Parineeti after they featured together in 2019’s Kesari. The film is backed by Pooja Entertainment and directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, who had previously directed Akshay’s 2016 movie Rustom.

 

Meanwhile, after Jogira Sara Ra Ra, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is back with another commercial film titled Tiku Weds Sheru. Also starring Avneet Kaur, the film produced by Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika Films dropped its trailer on Wednesday, 14th June. The film is a comedy set in Mumbai and Bhopal. The story revolves around Sheru, played by Nawazuddin, who works as a junior artist but that’s only his “decoy job” as he also works for a local don. He meets Tiku, played by Avneet, who “lives with her large conservative family” and gets married to Sheru to get out of Bhopal. The film marks Kangana’s first project as a producer. Tiku Weds Sheru premieres on Prime Video on June 23.

 

Kriti Sanon is awaiting the release of the biggest film of her career, Adipurush, which will hit the big screens on Friday, 16th June. Kriti recently opened up about sharing screen space with Prabhas. Talking to Bombay Times, Kriti shared that initially, she had heard that Prabhas was quite a “reserved” actor, however, she broke the ice with him by chatting with him on the sets of Adipurush. She admitted that she couldn’t imagine anyone other than Prabhas playing Raghav as the actor has “expressive eyes and a calm demeanour.” Kriti also shared that Prabhas was “incredibly grounded, warm and respectful” throughout the film’s shooting schedule.

 

Moving on. Tamannaah Bhatia recently confirmed her relationship with Vijay Varma and now, Vijay has said that he has “a lot of love” in his life and is very happy. The Dahaad actor did not mention Tamannaah’s name and added that he wants his audience to speak more about his work. In a chat with Janice Sequeira for her YouTube channel, Vijay was asked about people’s interest in his personal life and he said, “You speak about it when the right time comes but I can just tell you that there’s a lot of love in my life right now. And I’m happy.” The two will soon be seen together in Netflix’s Lust Stories 2.

 

Amitabh Bachchan often entertains his fans with interesting anecdotes from the past or pictures from his personal life on social media. His latest post is a picture from his daughter Shweta’s birthday party when she was just a toddler. The photograph has Amitabh holding Shweta and Twinkle Khanna in his arms. He captioned the post – “So this be Twinkle in white, on the left & Shweta on Shweta’s birthday ..Twinkle now married to Akshay Kumar, … Shweta, my daughter married to Nikhil Nanda. Twinkle here looking circumspect. Shweta has just scored a Goal!!” The actor’s fans shared their amusement in the comment section. One fan commented – “Lovely Memories.”

 

Meanwhile, on Kirron Kher’s 71st birthday on Wednesday, 14th June, her actor-husband Anupam Kher extended his best wishes to her on social media. He also shared a few unseen pictures of a young Kirron. Kirron and Anupam have been married for almost 38 years now. One of the pictures features a young Anupam and Kirron sitting together, posing for the camera. Other pictures have Kirron posing with her son Sikander Kher. Anupam wrote, “I have known you for close to fifty years now. You are still the same. You have fought life’s toughest battles. And always emerged as a winner. May you continue to win people’s love, trust and faith with your persona and goodness.”

 

Amol Palekar’s 2005 directorial Paheli, which starred Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji in the lead roles, was India’s official entry to the 79th Academy Awards. In a recent chat with Rajshri Unplugged, Amol recalled how Shah Rukh came on board and offered to produce the film as he was so impressed by the film’s concept. Palekar shared that he was already working on the pre-production and was thinking of casting newcomers when someone suggested that he should rope in big stars for the film. He took the suggestion and went to see Shah Rukh. Palekar recalled, “After listening to the whole narration, the first thing he said was, ‘Sir, would you mind if I produce this film?”

 

Lastly, Nikkhil Advani had been a part of Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions since the days of Shah Rukh Khan starrer Duplicate and eventually directed his first film Kal Ho Naa Ho under the banner, which was one of the biggest hits of 2003. Soon after the film, Nikkhil left the company. In the latest episode of The Streaming Show podcast, Nikkhil recalled, “Post Kal Ho Naa Ho, I didn’t have work for three years. Nobody wanted to work with me. I left Dharma and it was a very public fallout. When I finally started working again post-D-Day, I just wanted to do everything.”
