Let’s begin with our top story. The 95th annual Academy Awards saw the who’s who of celebrities walk the red carpet in their glamorous ensembles. Following the ceremony, which took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, Hollywood’s biggest night continued its festivities at the Wallis Annenberg Center where the after-party took place. Bollywood star Deepika Padukone, who was one of the presenters, took to her Instagram handle and shared her glamorous wardrobe change for the party. Earlier at the ceremony, Deepika had taken over the Oscars stage and introduced RRR’s Naatu Naatu before its live performance. The song Naatu Naatu from SS Rajamouli’s directorial, RRR won an Oscar in the Best Original Song category.

Meanwhile, Deepika Padukone received surprising praise from actor Kangana Ranaut. Deepika introduced SS Rajamouli’s Naatu Naatu performance at the 95th Academy Awards — and Kangana could not hold back cheering for the star. Deepika, who introduced the performance, had to stop multiple times due to cheers and hoots from the audience. The musical performance by Kaala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj received a standing ovation. Kangana took to Twitter and wrote that it is “not easy” to stand at such a prestigious podium, “holding the entire nation together.” She tweeted, “How beautiful Deepika looks…and speaking so graciously and confidently. Deepika stands tall as a testimony to the fact that Indian women are the best.”

Celebrity couple Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli leave no chance to show their love for each other. After Kohli hit a ton on Sunday, 12th March, during the India-Australia test match, fans noticed how Kohli kissed his wedding ring, which he wears as a locket around his neck, as he celebrated his big feat. He scored a Test century after more than three years. Virat had recently spoken about being inspired by his wife at every stage of his life. In a recent podcast, he said, “When I met Anushka, I saw a different side of life. It wasn’t the same as my environment. When you fall in love, you start processing those changes within you, as well.”

Actor-comedian Kapil Sharma, who will next be seen in the film Zwigato, appeared on Rajat Sharma’s show Aap Ki Adalat. Kapil opened up about the times when he cancelled shoots with Bollywood’s biggest names and also revealed the advice given to him by Shah Rukh Khan. Kapil recalled that the incidents were from the time he was dealing with depression and anxiety, adding that he was not in a position to work at that time. Kapil said that he was sad when Shah Rukh’s shoot was cancelled but also added that the star understood the situation he was in. Kapil said that Shah Rukh lovingly said to him, “Why are you taking so much tension when people love you so much.”

Meanwhile, Veteran actor Pankaj Kapur doesn’t understand why his latest film Bheed has made a section of people angry. Directed by Anubhav Sinha, ‘Bheed’ chronicles the plight of migrants during the Covid-19-induced lockdown of 2020, when lakhs of migrant workers travelled to their home towns from cities. The film’s teaser drew parallels with the horrors of partition, juxtaposing the grim visuals of 1947 and the heartbreaking images of the 2020 lockdown. Twitter was quick to dub the film as ‘anti-India’, suggesting the movie was mounted with a vested interest. Pankaj said – “It’s ridiculous that just one small teaser and you start saying it’s a political film. It’s an analytical film that talks about the mindset of our society.”

Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi recently launched an Urdu poetry album ‘Shayarana – Sartaj’. Speaking at the event, Javed Akhtar emphasised the importance of the Urdu language. Javed Akhtar also said that Urdu doesn’t belong to Pakistan or Egypt, it belongs to ‘Hindustan’. He further said, “If language was based on religion, then the whole of Europe would have one language. That’s why language is not of religion, but of the region.” Javed Akhtar recently created a buzz with his statement against Pakistan. Javed Akhtar had said that the perpetrators and conspirators of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks were still “roaming freely” in Pakistan.
