In our top story. The trailer of Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan was released on Thursday, 31st August, just days before the film is set to release. Jawan features SRK in a variety of avatars and combines elements of vigilante thrillers and masala entertainers. The film also appears to be taking place in multiple timelines, with Shah Rukh appearing as a soldier in one plotline, and a vigilante who inspires the public’s support in another. Nayanthara plays a cop tasked with tracking down the vigilante, but she also plays the romantic interest. Deepika Padukone and Vijay Sethupathi also play pivotal roles in the film. Jawan, directed by Atlee, will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu on September 7th.

Moving on. Gadar 2, starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, has been in theatres for about three weeks now and is still dominating the box office. According to early projections from industry tracker Sacnilk, the movie earned Rs 7.50 crore on Thursday, 31st August, taking its total to Rs 481.35 crore nett. The film first clashed with Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 and Rajinikanth’s Jailer. Ayushmann Khurrana’s Dream Girl 2 later debuted in theatres on August 25th. However, the film did not have much impact on Gadar 2’s box office run. Helmed by Anil Sharma, Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel reprise their roles as Tara Singh and Sakina in Gadar 2. The film also stars Utkarsh Sharma in a pivotal role.

The makers of Gadar 2 are now planning to send the Sunny Deol starrer to the Oscars. Director Anil Sharma, in an interview with indianexpress.com, shared how he and his team are working towards completing application procedures for the Academy Awards. The director shared – “Gadar: Ek Prem Katha didn’t go, so I don’t know how Gadar 2 will go, but we are working at it. The film should go because it deserves to. Gadar 2 is a new and original story.” Anil then expressed that he’s been upset for years for not receiving accolades for his films. He said – “It feels like I’ve not worked at all. But we have been blessed with rewards and people’s love.”

Alongside the photos, Madhuri wrote – “My boys! How can you both be in college already? Where has the time gone? Still, I’m excited for you to have your adventures and become the best version of yourselves. I love you always and will miss you immensely, all the time. Home won’t be the same without you two.”

Actor Babil Khan is all set to headline the film, Friday Night Plan. In a recent interview, with Film Companion, Babil revealed that he was always scared of his father and legendary actor Irrfan Khan’s ‘greatness’ which is why it took him time to start acting. He shared – “As a 16-year-old when you start realising you want to do something with your life and your father is already a larger-than-life figure… That’s why it took me so long to confront my passion.” When asked if comparisons with his iconic father had hindered his acting, Babil explained – “You need life experiences to push you towards your passion. I am still to realise the complete potential of my instincts.”

Meanwhile, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap expressed his opinion on the ongoing controversy surrounding the Prime Video series Made in Heaven. Anurag didn’t take any names, but was talking about writer Yashica Dutt’s claims that the makers borrowed liberally from her life story for an episode that dealt with a Dalit character’s ‘coming out’. In an interview with The Quint, Anurag said – “You are exposing yourself. How are you not toxic anymore? How do I take you seriously?” The episode in question was directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, but the show was created by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti. Following Yashica’s complaints, Zoya, Reema, Alankrita Shrivastava and Neeraj wrote a joint statement and said that they found inspiration from various Dalit writers.

The Punjab Police has registered a case against producer Bhushan Kumar, directors Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, and actor Meezaan Jafri on the charges of hurting religious sentiments after a song in the upcoming movie “Yaariyan-2” allegedly shows the actor wearing a ‘kirpan’.
