In our top story. The Kerala Story, which was released in the theatres on May 5, has been doing well at the box office. However, a section of the audience is still angry with the makers of the film for misrepresentation of facts. The film’s creative producer, Vipul Shah, commenting on the misleading figures in the teaser, told DNA – “The thing is that the case is not yet concluded. The hearing was only about the ban. In that hearing, the court decided to hear this other matter at a later date, on July 18. In the meanwhile, they wanted to end this controversy. So, they told us to add this disclaimer. There is no problem.”

Meanwhile, Naseeruddin Shah in a new interview with India Today, has vehemently criticised Sudipto Sen’s controversial film The Kerala Story and said that he has no intention of watching the movie. He said – “Worthwhile films like Bheed, Afwaah and Faraaz – all three collapsed. Nobody went to see them, but they are flocking to see The Kerala Story which I have not seen, and I don’t intend to see, because I have read enough about it”. The 72-year-old also called this a “dangerous trend of bringing religion into everything”.

Actor Ranveer Singh has signed for representation with Hollywood talent agency WME recently, according to a Deadline report. The development is in alignment with some of Ranveer’s international associations: he has partnered with the NBA, appeared in the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game for the last two years, and was recently in New York City for his partnership with Tiffany & Co. In 2021, Ranveer’s wife, actor Deepika Padukone signed with the agency ICM. In 2021, WME also signed Alia Bhatt, who will soon make her Hollywood debut with Gal Gadot-starrer Heart of Stone for Netflix. The agency had also signed The White Tiger star Adarsh Gourav previously.

Moving on. Actor Bhuvan Arora, who shot to prominence after starring in the crime thriller series “Farzi“, is set to feature in director Kabir Khan’s upcoming film. Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, the currently untitled movie is based on a true story and is fronted by Kartik Aryan. Arora said he is looking forward to working with the filmmaker, best known for “Ek Tha Tiger”, “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” and “83”. The actor told PTI – “I am very excited and happy to work with Kabir Sir. I have always admired his films and the selection of stories he wants to tell.” Prior to Prime Video’s “Farzi”, Arora featured in supporting characters in films such as “Shuddh Desi Romance” and “Naam Shabana”.

Actor Manoj Bajpayee’s Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai might have a reverse journey – after premiering on ZEE5 to much praise, the drama will have a limited theatrical release soon. The film features Bajpayee as a passionate lawyer fighting against a godman who is accused of raping a minor. Directed by Apoorv Singh Karki, the film, inspired by true events, was released on May 23 on ZEE5. Bajpayee, in an interview, told indianexpress.com, “Because of the massive public demand, Zee Studio and Vinod Bhanushali are sitting together as we speak, brainstorming as to how to go about releasing it in theatres. At least symbolically, to respect the demand of the audience. Let’s see where it goes from here.”

Meanwhile, filmmaker Anubhav Sinha recently addressed how he reacts to public criticism while stating that his career has “died three times by now”. He told Entertainment Times – “I have received a ridiculous amount of love from the media and public. Not many are aware that my career has died three times by now. After Tum Bin, I was called a one-film wonder. I made Ra. One after, but no one understood the film. I got so much flak for Ra.One. I was dead meat anyway. I have great films now that will live a long life, I can retire.”

Kangana Ranaut excels at grabbing headlines like no other Bollywood star. She has now claimed that only she gets paid like male actors do, while most A-listers “do films for free”. Ranaut made the statement, through an Instagram story, while reacting to one of Priyanka Chopra’s interviews with BBC from last year, in which she spoke about the pay gap in Bollywood. She wrote – “I was the first one to fight for pay parity and the most disgusting thing that I faced while doing this was that my contemporaries offered to work for free on the same roles that I was negotiating for. Everyone knows that only I get paid like male actors and no one else.”

Lastly, Radhika Madan, who worked in television shows for a few years before she worked in the movies, had previously spoken up about the never-ending hours of working on a TV set and many, including producer Ekta Kapoor, criticised her comments. In a recent interview, Radhika has now said her learnings from television have helped her in her career. She told Siddharth Kannan, “What you can learn on TV, you can’t learn anywhere else.” When asked about the fan following that she had gained after working in television, Radhika also shared that filmmakers are quite surprised as they do not expect a TV celebrity to be that famous.
