Rahul Roy made his debut in the 1990 film Aashiqui. He went on to star in films such as Junoon, Jaanam and Pyar Ho Gaya. In 2020, he suffered a brain stroke while shooting for the film LAC — Live the Battle in Kargil. Besides his professional life and health, the actor had also made headlines for taking a hiatus from Bollywood and moving to Australia.
EXCLUSIVE: Rahul Roy recalls “washing dishes” in Australia before divorcing former wife Rajlaxmi; says, “I just got lost”
Recently, in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, the actor, along with his soul sister Hari Maa Priyanka, opened up about his time in Australia. When asked about the purpose of moving to Australia, Roy asserted, Rajlaxmi (Khanvilkar) was there. So I said okay, let’s go there. I went there and in 2014, we were divorced, and I decided to come back.”
As the conversation progressed further, the Aashiqui star was asked what he did for a living there. In his quick response, he said, “Nothing.” Meanwhile, Priyanka added, “He used to tell me that he washes dishes in the kitchen.”
After agreeing with her, Rahul explained, “That’s it. I could not work. Indians around me often asked me what I am up to. But I had no work at that moment. I just got lost.” Priyanka continued and added, “It was a total shift for him. Because he was familiar with working in the Hindi film industry, he could not get anything there. It was a big shift for him. He used to tell me “Hari Maa, I washed utensils.”
Rahul concluded by saying, “Now, I go wherever, be it Australia, England or the US, I have work. At that time, I had nothing.”
For the unversed, Rahul and Rajlaxmi tied the knot in January 2000. However, after 14 years of marital bliss, the duo parted ways.
