Jaya Bachchan and her husband Amitabh Bachchan had a long but highly scrutinized marriage that created a lot of gossip fodder during the day, with Big B’s equation with Rekha being one of the issues generating speculation. So when Simmi Garewal asked Jaya, “Is he romantic?” Amitabh replied, “No,” and Jaya quipped, “Not with me,” making things so awkward!
It got even more awkward when she said, “Maybe if he had a girlfriend, he would have.” Simmi then asked if he was romantic when Jaya was his girlfriend, and Jaya replied, “No. He never spoke. A shocked Simmi looked at Amitabh who said, “Yes, this is such a waste of time.”
Eh!

Simi Garewal’s most controversial and widely circulated interview has to be the one with the outspoken and enigmatic Rekha. In this interview, she finally addressed these rumors about her and Amitabh Bachchan. Here’s how the conversation went: Simmi asked her, “As much as you were charmed, did you fall for him in the process?” to which Rekha replied, “Absolutely, yes! That’s a dumb question,” but then added, “I’ve yet to meet a single man, woman, child who couldn’t help falling completely, passionately, madly, desperately, hopelessly in love with him. So why should I be singled out?’
The best part was when Simmi kept pressing Rekha for more tea for her and Big B, Rekha shut him down saying, “Is this show for me or Mr. Bachchan?”
3. When Akshaye Khanna called out Rishi Kapoor

Late actor Rishi Kapoor was known for his controversial views. He also had his views on Akshay Khanna, which Simmi described as, “Rishi Kapoor had said, ‘Akshay is such a talented actor, but he has a serious behavior problem.'” Akshay didn’t bat an eyelid before clapping back with “And he too !” leaving us reeling.
4. When Kareena credited her mother for her and her sister’s success, not her father

When Kareena and Karisma Kapoor, especially the latter, came on the scene, it was not something for the women of the Kapoor family to enter the world of cinema. But things changed when Kareena and Karisma’s mother Babita moved out with her two daughters.
At the time this interview aired, Kareena Kapoor Khan’s parents, Babita and Randhir Kapoor, were still living separately. When Simmi asked Kareena if it was difficult for her, Kareena said, “My mother is…she is a wonder woman. She can take over the world. She can go up against anyone on this planet and come out victorious.”
So when Simmi went ahead and asked, “Do you go to your father for advice?” Kareena said that she only relies on her mother, “No, I think with a mother like this, no one will ever go anywhere else for advice. My mother built this whole empire by herself. Her only two daughters, Raj Kapoor’s granddaughters, keep his name alive.”
Addressing this in the context of Karisma and her sister having to cope after their grandfather Raj Kapoor passed away, Kareena reiterated that it was their mother who helped Karisma, not their father: “The only one who supported her and who inspired her to do that was my mother. I have literally seen the two of them fight from pillar to post. As a child, I saw a lot with my mother, with my sister.”
5. When Raveena Tandon exposed a man who told her to quit films to marry her

During this interview, Simmi asked Raveena why she left cinema for two years, “I was engaged to someone I knew and I thought I’d give it up… that’s what I wanted all along, to lead a very normal life . I was engaged to be married. I gave it up because of a commitment, yes.”
Simmi then asked her if she really got married, to which Raveena said that there was an elaborate betrothal ceremony with the man’s relatives from Delhi, but they didn’t get married.
Simi then asked if the person in question wanted her to quit her job in films: “Yes, he did say that the last day of your shoot and we will continue and… In fact, even when I restarted my career, there were many times when he said that even now, give up your career and we will get married. And much, much, much later, like I’m talking about when the trouble started and everything, and I remember the last time he said that I said, “You know once in my life I chose you over my career. Sorry, this time I think I’ll choose my career.”
If the rumors are true, the man in question is none other than Akshay Kumar. per KoiMoi, Akshay did an interview with Predif in which he said: “It was just an engagement that broke down later. But sorry, we were never married at all. I actually shot for a long time with Raveena, even after we broke up.”
Interestingly, in an interview for star dustsaid Raveena about Akshay, “Akshay offers every girl and the rate he’s going, he’ll soon have to address the parents of three-quarters of the girls in Mumbai as ‘mom and dad.’
6. Hema Malini was scathing in her bias towards married women in Bollywood

Talking about ageism, sexism and misogyny in the film industry is only now becoming a thing. Back in the day, not too many actresses, especially established, well-known ones, spoke out about how the industry portrayed married women. However, Hema Malini has spoken about it with abandon, ripping the industry for offering her ‘mother’ roles.
Hema said, “What happens in the Indian film industry, the moment you get married, they make a mother. Just the day before, you might have worked with a hero, and the next day, after you get married, you’ll be working as his mother. So they were offering me, Jeetendra’s mother, Amitabh Bachchan’s mother. Only with the heroines, not the heroes.”
So while this wasn’t a juicy tidbit about her personal life, it was a scathing indictment of the film industry’s treatment of women — and God knows that whistle needed to be blown!
