Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson still not confirmed for WWE SummerSlam 2023

It has long been thought that WWE wanted to hold a once-in-a-generation matchup between Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and his cousin, Roman Reigns.

After several WrestleMania events have passed with the dream not realized due to Johnson’s hectic filming schedule in Hollywood, many felt that SummerSlam 2023 would be the perfect opportunity to reintroduce the iconic wrestler.

Reigns is set to take on another of his relatives in Jey Uso in the main event of the premium live event held on Saturday, August 5, and many felt that it would be the perfect moment to reintroduce The Rock into the family affair.

Whether or not he would cost Reigns his WWE Championship is unclear, with that the most likely route to a collision at another high-profile event, or whether he would help Reigns only to backstab him, or be backstabbed at a later date.

The Rock’s appearance is yet to be confirmed

However, what seemed like a slam-dunk of a storyline is not yet etched in stone, with Johnson having not yet confirmed whether he will be appearing at WWE SummerSlam 2023.

Dave Meltzer of the ‘Wrestling Observer Newsletter’ remains a key figure in wrestling journalism, and even he isn’t sure of what the plans are with regards to The Rock.

“I asked if there’s gonna be somebody else, and they said ‘I don’t know, maybe’, so who knows?” Meltzer admitted.

“I don’t know if Dwayne Johnson will come back, but if he’s going to do it for something, it’s gonna be for 50,000 fans in Detroit, which is this show. I don’t know what he’s doing again, I know there’s a strike on and everything, but he’s always doing something.”
