Dil Se, DDLJ — 5 Iconic Shahrukh Khan Movies Where He Was Creepy AF, Not Romantic

[ad_1]

Shah Rukh Khan is known as the king of romance in Bollywood.

His signature pose with outstretched arms, charming smile and cheesy dialogues have survived the test of time and continue to be loved by Indian audiences.

Songs from his movies are used as examples even today of what a true romantic ballad looks like.

However, as I began rewatching some of his old romantic movies, I realised how a lot of scenes ended up making him look like a creepy stalker, not the romance hero we know him as.

Here are five popular romantic movies of Shah Rukh Khan where he was creepy AF, not romantic:

1. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge

I will probably get a lot of hate for this, but Shah Rukh Khan was super creepy in DDLJ.

Not only does he wave Kajol’s undergarments in front of her, he even fools her into believing he slept with her, only to give a sanskaari sermon. He follows her all around Europe, and back to India without knowing if she even loved him. Isn’t that problematic?

2. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

I am of the unpopular opinion that Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is not a rom-com, but a movie about toxic adults. He enters Tina’s room in the middle of the night to look like a Shakespearean hero, but ends up looking like a creep going into a girl’s bedroom uninvited.

He also can’t bear losing to Anjali in basketball, so he decides to pull her saree. She’s forced to save her modesty and let go of the basketball which allows Rahul to win.

Way to go, and as Anjali rightfully says “Rahul is a cheater! Cheater! Cheater!”

3. Dil Se

Dil Se’s iconic soundtrack and stunning visuals have left an indelible impact on several generations, but Shah Rukh Khan’s obsessive stalker behaviour in the movie hasn’t aged well.

There are several moments in the film where he stares at Manisha Koirala in a very creepy way and keeps harassing her physically. It’s extremely uncomfortable to watch as an adult.

4. Josh

“Ye uska style hoyenga, honthon pe na dil me haan hoyenga.”

This line from one of the movie’s popular songs says enough. It perpetuates the idea that consent is a myth and “no” doesn’t really mean “no”.

Push harder and it will become a “yes.” Shah Rukh Khan’s character in the film keeps stalking a girl and sings this song with his gang of friends…and his sister! What could be worse than this?

5. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

A decent man like Surinder Sahni is made out to be a boring guy while a creep like Raj, his alter ego, is perceived as a fun, romantic guy.

Even though Anushka Sharma’s character doesn’t want to put up with his shenanigans, his refusal to understand “no” makes her relent, eventually.

Cringey dialogues, creepy behaviour and Shah Rukh Khan’s dil phaink aashiq attitude make an otherwise endearing movie hard to watch.
