Deepika Padukone is currently at Paris Fashion Week. She is the only Indian celebrity to represent the country there. She joins the likes of Ana de Armas, Alicia Vikander among other Hollywood celebrities. During her talk at the event, Deepika bravely called out racial stereotypes in Hollywood and how the West perceives outsiders.
In the interview, Deepika revealed that it upset her every time she went to the US and received some of the things that were said and done. She also revealed the reason why she hasn’t done more global films since her big Hollywood debut with Vin Diesel in xXx: The Return of Xander Cage.
Without naming the person, Deepika recalled her interaction with a Hollywood actor. “I know this actor… I met him at this Vanity Fair party and he said, ‘Hey, by the way, you speak English really well.’ I didn’t even realize what that meant. And when I came back I said, ‘What do you mean you speak English very well?’ Did he have any idea we didn’t speak English?” she told Business of Fashion.
In her latest Instagram post, Deepika was quoted as saying, “There was a time when you could come [to India] and just sell what you want and we will buy it or believe your ideas. But today we have our own identity and are extremely proud of all our own brands. This is not one India. There are many indies. And as Indians, we are also extremely proud of our history, our culture and our heritage. The Indian consumer today cannot be taken for granted.”
On the work front, Deepika will be next seen in Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan alongside her Desi Boyz co-star John Abraham. She is also planning Fighter with Hrithik Roshan and Nag Ashwin’s Project K with Telugu star Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan.
