In his first interview as Huddersfield Town’s new head coach, Danny Schofield says he feels honored to be given the position at a club so close to his heart.

After famously joining the club from Brodsworth Welfare in 1998 for just £2,000 – and reportedly some training equipment – Danny became 23rd in the club’s all-time charts, making 285 appearances and scoring 46 goals in a fantastic a decade with the club.

Speaking to HTAFC Sounds for the first time since his appointment, Danny wanted to start by stressing his respect for his predecessor Carlos Corberan.

“First and foremost, it was a surprise to me. The call came late at night and Carlos’ decision to resign came as a shock to everyone.

“The club has had to move on very quickly, I think there has always been a plan at this club and yes, I have been appointed head coach.

“My time with Carlos was very interesting, really nice, we really connected in terms of seeing football the same way and I think that’s why we gravitated towards each other when we first met.

“We’ve had a really good working relationship and we’ll continue to have a personal one.”

Having enjoyed a successful playing career with Town, Schofield admitted the pride he feels in leading his club into our next chapter.

“Having played here for nine years, this is a club really close to my heart.

“It’s also a big part of my family, so it’s a very proud moment and I feel very honored to have. I will do anything to succeed.”

After learning the news yesterday morning, Town’s First Team players took to the pitch for a double training session, something Danny was keen to comment on.

“We wanted everything to go as smoothly as possible, obviously it’s a bit of a shock for the players when the head coach leaves, but we prepared the sessions and we were ready.

“The methodology I was a part of under the previous head coach, so it will continue, develop and progress. The players were excellent yesterday in their sessions.”

Looking ahead to the 2022/23 season, Danny was keen to reassure Town fans that after working so closely under Carlos, things on the pitch won’t look too different.

“It builds on the things we did really well last season, improving on certain areas where we think we need to improve because we’re always reflecting and we’re always trying to review and try to get better.

“We’re going to do those things and hopefully we can put them on the field.”
