Dame Mary Berry is set to make a surprise appearance on Celebrity MasterChef during next week’s big semi-final showdown.
It’s been confirmed that she will appear during next Thursday’s (September 8) edition of the BBC cooking competition.
The contestants will be tasked with recreating one of Dame Mary’s ‘favourite and delicious signature classic recipes’ during what promises to be a tense episode.
MasterChef’s big-name contestants will have to ‘master unfamiliar ingredients and techniques’ in their attempts to please the baking legend.
Dame Mary said: ‘I can’t wait to see these talented MasterChef semi-finalists bring my dishes to life and hopefully they are recipes they would enjoy making at home too.’
‘They need to remember though that I’ve got eyes in the back of my head. They may think I’m not watching, but I will be,’ she added in a statement.
Dame Mary has published dozens of recipe books and became a household name as a judge on the Great British Bake-Off between 2010 and 2016.
When the show relocated from the BBC to Channel 4, Dame Mary left the show alongside judges Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins.
Dame Mary will join regular judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode, and will be judging actor Adam Pearson, Drag Race’s Kitty-Scott Claws, and Strictly Come Dancing’s Katya Jones, soap actor Ryan Thomas, and TV presenter Lisa Snowdon.
Speaking about her time on the show, Jones, 33, said: ‘I’ve been a professional dancer for 30 years, I’ve been a teacher and I’m always in control of the situation.’
She continued: ‘I’ve been learning my craft for so long that I thought to be on the other side, be the beginner, be the amateur and being judged for something that is so outside my comfort zone is going to make me a better person.’
Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas is also still in the competition alongside his fellow celebrity contestants. Thomas, 38, who starred as Jason Grimshaw for 16 years, star said he found the competition to be ‘intimidating’ at first.
He said: ‘It is very intimidating and scary when you first walk in, nothing can prepare you for that. Stepping into the kitchen, working out where everything is and then cooking the food.’
Watch Celebrity MasterChef on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
