The county resident held three titles leading up to this pageant, including Miss San Benito Rodeo in 2017.
On 27 Oct. the Miss Rodeo California pageant is set to begin at the Lake Pavilion in Atascadero, California. Corissa King of Hollister will be in attendance as one of three contestants vying for the Miss Rodeo California crown this year.
The Miss Rodeo California Facebook page will be live through the end of the week so outside viewers can follow the competition. The results will be announced on October 29 at 2:00 PM
The position of Miss Rodeo California serves as a representative of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association both statewide and nationally, as well as an ambassador for the state of California, the sport of rodeo and the agricultural industry. This contest aims to name the woman who will take up the mantle in the coming year.
King graduated from Hollister High School in 2017, then attended California State University, Fresno. She graduated in December 2021 with a degree in Media Communications and Journalism with an emphasis in broadcast journalism. He currently works as an assistant product developer for footwear at Ariat International. King was a 2021 BenitoLink summer intern.
With deep family ties to the world of rodeo, King spent several years representing the sport and the Western lifestyle while holding various rodeo queen positions. In 2017, she won her first title as Miss San Benito Rodeo. She won her next title in 2019 as Miss Gilroy Rodeo, then in 2021 as Miss Clovis Rodeo.
“Rodeo is very important to me. At every competition, the reason I run for queen is not only to be a rodeo queen, but to be an ambassador for the sport of professional rodeo. Unfortunately in the state of California we are losing people who support agriculture and the sport of rodeo. So I would like to not only be Miss Rodeo California, but also an ambassador for the sport of rodeo and for agriculture in general,” King said.
The competition consists of contestants who are judged on personality, appearance, speech, photogenic qualities and horsemanship. This includes both impromptu and extemporaneous speeches, personal interviews, a fashion element, a written test and a riding component. Horse riding requires competitors to prove their abilities on horseback. The Miss Rodeo California Organization strives to select the individual who is most familiar with the industry and most qualified to represent the sport at a professional level.
“With the knowledge and experience that I have with a degree in broadcast journalism, I feel that I am best qualified to speak to people competently and professionally when it comes to rodeo and agriculture,” King said.
Since serving her year as Miss San Benito Rodeo in 2017, King has represented several rodeo organizations, but still credits the county that started her on this journey.
“To represent the county that built me as a rodeo queen, it’s a surreal feeling,” she said. “The amount of support I have received from San Benito County is even more special. Thank you to the San Benito County Show and Rodeo for all their support and to all the other generous donors and supporters in Hollister and San Benito County.”
