Collision expects to see 35,000 in-person attendees after two years online.
Collision has revealed the 28 Canadian startups that have been selected for the PITCH competition.
PITCH is open to all early-stage startups exposed to Collision that have received less than $5 million in funding to date and have not had a notable change in their business models in the past three years.
Toronto-based dating app Couply won Collision’s PITCH competition last year, joining other past winners like AirHelp, Loliware and Lifeina.
The competition jury includes the likes of Rupa Atreya, Chief Investment Officer of the accelerator at Techstars; David Dufresne, investor and advisor at Pref; Faisal Kazi, president and CEO of Siemens Canada; and Veetahl Eilat-Raichel, co-founder and CEO of Sorbet.
Set to take place June 20-23 at the Enercare Centre, Web Summit said it expects Collision to be the largest international gathering in Toronto in more than two years. Tickets for the tech conference are currently sold out, with 35,000 attendees expected.
Collision was originally scheduled to be held in Toronto for three years starting in 2019. The event has been held online for the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is scheduled to continue to be held in Toronto in 2023.
Over 900 speakers, 1,500 startups, 1,200 journalists, 850 investors and 100 unicorn companies from more than 140 countries are expected to attend Collision this year.
Since the last in-person event in Toronto, Web Summit claims Collission attendance has grown by 40 percent. To accommodate this growth, the event’s total space was increased by 54 percent. Collision will use the entire Beanfield Center building with outdoor space for food trucks, seating and circulation.
The number of participating startups also increased by 36 percent, surpassing Web Summit 2021 in Lisbon, which took place in November.
