TAES is accepting applications for training and partner success coaches
Tuition and Academic Services at Ithaca College will accept applications from students for Learning Coaches and Peer Success Coaches through April 7. TAES is part of the Center for Student Success and Retention and allows students to connect with peer coaches who can help them with academics in general and for specific classes. TAES is asking students to submit their applications by April 7, as this will allow the current Peer Learning and Success Coaches to finish working with their current staff. Students needing support after April 7 should email TAES@ithaca.edu.
The BOLD Scholarship is open for applications for the class of 2025
The BOLD Women’s Leadership Scholarship is accepting applications for the class of 2025 until 11:59 pm on April 16. The BOLD Scholarship is awarded for a period of two years and is worth $27,500 per year. The BOLD Scholarship is part of the BOLD program, which is funded by the Helen Gurley Brown Foundation. Interested students can find the Intercom application. Although prospective scholars are encouraged to attend an information session, they are not required to do so. While two of the three information sessions have already been held from 12:10 to 1:05 p.m. on March 30 in Friends 307 and from 5 to 6 p.m. on April 3 in Friends 307, a virtual information session will be held from 7:30 to 8: 8:30 p.m. on April 5 via Zoom. Students who were unable to attend one of the information sessions and would like to learn more can make an appointment to speak with Samantha Ellebiari, BOLD Program Director. An application is considered complete when the application form is submitted and the faculty or staff recommendation form is completed, in addition to PDF versions of the applicants’ unofficial transcript and resume emailed to bold@ithaca.edu. The deadline for staff or faculty to submit recommendations is 11:59 p.m. on April 23. After students complete the application, students will be invited to a group interview that will take place from 3 to 6 pm on April 29. After the group interviews are over, 20 to 25 students will be invited to participate in individual interviews, which will take place online between May 14 and 19. Selected students will receive an email regarding the same and will be able to schedule an appointment that is convenient for them. Before the end of May, students will find out if their application was successful or not. All questions should be directed by email to bold@ithaca.edu
OSE and HR are hosting a special event for IC student employees
The Office of Student Employment and Human Resources is hosting an event honoring student employees from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on April 13 in the Emerson Suites. Students can play games and win raffle prizes. Refreshments will be served at the event. Student-employee leaders are also welcome to attend the event and were also encouraged to send messages of appreciation to student-employees to hrstudent@ithaca.edu by April 3. The Washington Post’s assignment editor talks about data visualization
Reuben Fischer-Baum, assignment editor on The Washington Post’s graphic design team, will present a talk titled “How Journalists Create Data Visualizations” from 1:15 to 2:15 pm on April 14 at the Emerson Suites. In the talk, Fischer-Baum will explore the different types of digital tools and software that journalists can use to visualize data. Fischer-Baum pursued her BA in Environmental Science from Yale University and teaches data visualization at the Parsons School of Design in New York. This talk is part of the 2023 College Computer Science Consortium for the Northeast Region, which is hosted by the Department of Computer Science at Ithaca College. IC Prevention Education Network hosts a presentation on abortion
Naiara Bezzera-Gastesi, a campus educator at the Tompkins County Advocacy Center, will present a talk on abortion from 1:30 to 2:30 pm on April 11 in the Taughannock Falls Room. The presentation will focus specifically on the impact of abortion bans in certain states in the United States, including New York, on survivors of sexual assault and will also outline strategies individuals can use to support survivors of sexual assault seeking an abortion . This presentation and discussion session is organized by the Prevention Education Network, Ithaca College’s prevention education committee. Faculty leaders host sessions discussing shared governance
Melanie Stein, Provost and Senior Vice President; Christina Dail, Associate Professor in the Department of Theater Studies; Dave Gondek, Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology; Lauren Steele, associate professor in the Department of Media Arts, Sciences and Studies; General Counsel Emily Rockett, Secretary of the Board of Trustees; and Claire Gleitman, dean of the School of Humanities and Sciences, invite faculty to a panel discussion on shared governance. While one of the sessions took place from 10am to 11am on April 7th in the Clark Lounge, two upcoming sessions will be held from 3pm to 4pm on April 11th in the Taughannock Falls Room and from 12:10pm to 1:05pm on April 13th in the Clark Lounge. These sessions will focus specifically on the production of two documents that aim to put the structure and values of shared governance at Ithaca College into writing. Although there is no attendance limit, faculty are required to RSVP if they wish to attend one of the sessions.
A Holocaust survivor will talk about personal experiences
Roald Hoffmann, Nobel Prize winner and Holocaust survivor, will give a personal talk from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm on April 25 in Muller Chapel. Hoffmann will talk about growing up in wartime eastern Poland and his experience of being imprisoned in a labor camp. This talk is open to all members of the campus community and masks are strongly encouraged.
