Famous celebrity stylist, who has styled many Hollywood A-listers like Bella Hadid, Ariana Grande, Priyanka Chopra, Tom Holland, Céline Dion, Anya Taylor-Joy and Kerry Washington, among others, shocked everyone after announcing sudden retirement at 44. Roach took to Instagram to share the news.
“My Cup is empty….. thank you to everyone who’ve supported me and my career over the years. Every person that trusted me with their image, I’m so grateful for you all,” wrote Roach, along with an image of a red sign that read: “Retired.”
Hinting at what might have led to him taking this abrupt decision, Roach continued, “If this business was just about the clothes I would do it for the rest of my life but unfortunately it’s not! The politics, the lies and false narratives finally got me! You win … I’m out”.
African-American stylist Law has been named as one of “Hollywood’s Most Power Stylists in 2021” by The Hollywood Reporter. He also received the prestigious CFDA’s 2022 inaugural Stylist Award. Talking about the achievement to Vogue, Roach called it an “ultimate complement”.
He also opened up about his design philosophy and shared, “I think that what maybe separates me from other [stylists] is that I really work hard to find who the person is. I don’t want to ever change that; I just want to help elevate it; for them to be the best version of themselves.”
Roach has been a celebrity stylist since 2009, when he first started working for Ye, previously named Kanye West. He is also famous for his long-term association with actor Zendaya.
He started styling Zendaya when she was only 14 years old. Some of the now 26-year-old’s most iconic looks were styled by Roach.
In a January 2021-interview with Women’s Wear Daily, Roach opened up about his long working relationship with Zendaya and shared, “It doesn’t seem like 10 years at all. We’ve had a lot of looks and a lot of moments over this decade and every time seems just as magical as the first”.
He added, “We know each other like the back of our hands. I’ve been very blessed to be a part of the curation of her style and her fashion identity. We call each other our fashion soulmates.”
