One of the “Celebrity Jeopardy!” questions that stumped all three contestants on Sunday was about the Nutmeg State.
The third episode of ABC’s “Celebrity Jeopardy!” Season 1 aired on Oct. 9 with three new celebrities participating to win money for their respective charities and for a spot in the semifinals. The game mirrors the original “Jeopardy!” show but includes a Triple Jeopardy round and a $30,000 donation to each of the losing contestants’ charities.
Ike Barinholtz, an actor from “The Mindy Project,” held a commanding lead the entire game and finished with $46,001. Actress Constance Wu and ESPN Sports Analyst Jalen Rose both ended with zero dollars.
In the first round, Wu selected the category “Americana” for $400.
The clue, read by host Mayim Bialik, was “Yankee Magazine says this New England state is know for chowder, old money & being the home of TV’s Gilmore Girls.”
Rose incorrectly guessed “What is New England?” and Wu hesitantly answered “What is Massachusetts?” Rose, realizing what the correct answer is, put his head in his hand and looked disappointed.
Barinholtz declined a chance to guess and said he’s never seen “Gilmore Girls.” Bialik revealed the answer was Connecticut, which Wu joked was her “second New England guess.”
Rose said he had lived in the state “for years,” cueing a laugh from the audience and contestants. He made up for it with the next question and correctly answered “What is Memphis?”
“Gilmore Girls,” an award-winning TV series that aired in the early 2000s, takes place in the fictional town of Stars Hollow, Conn. While chowder is a food staple in multiple New England states, Connecticut has a long list of eateries specializing in the soup and is also home to the annual Chowdafest, the largest chowder and soup competition in New England.
