Cast for Alexander Zeldin’s North American Premiere love at the Park Avenue Armory
Zeldin will also direct his play about life and love in temporary housing.
of Alexander Zeldin LOVE will make its North American premiere at the Park Avenue Armory starting February 25. Off-Broadway performances are scheduled through March 25, with a February 28 premiere. An interview with an artist is scheduled for March 9.
The play delves into the lives of families living in temporary public housing in the days leading up to Christmas. The group of assembled strangers includes a middle-aged man and his elderly mother, a young family with a baby on the way, a newly arrived woman from Sudan, and a Syrian refugee. Zeldin used personal interviews and first-hand accounts collected over the years to write the play, which will be performed with the house lights on.
The cast will include Alex Austin, Amelda Brown, Nabi Dahli, Janet Etuk, Amelia Finnegan, Oliver Finnegan, Nick Holder, Hind Sweldahhab and Grace Willoughby.
Zeldin is also directing his play, which will feature set and costume design by Natasha Jenkins, lighting design by Mark Williams, sound design by Josh Annio Grigg, movement by Marcin Rudy, associate direction by Elin Schofield and cast by Jacob Sparrow.
“LOVE invites us into the lives of those who are often invisible, but does so lovingly in a way that ignites our compassion and empathy,” Armory artistic director Pierre Audi said in a statement.
LOVE is part of Zeldin’s trilogy of plays The inequalitieswhich together explore the human impact of austerity in Britain. The inequalities also includes Beyond carewhich premiered in 2014, and Faith, Hope and Charitywhich opened in 2019. LOVE premiered in 2016 at the National Theater and subsequently toured throughout Europe. It was then adapted into a film by the BBC.
A Park Avenue Armory and A Zeldin Company Production, LOVE it was originally produced by the National Theater of Great Britain, in co-production with Birmingham Repertory Theater and produced for a European tour by Odéon-Théâtre de l’Europe and A Zeldin Company.
