Boxing: Juan Manuel Marquez: “Jake Paul and celebrities are hurting boxing”

Former Mexican world champion Juan Manuel Marquez made a strong criticism to youtubers and celebrities who have wanted to practice boxing professionally without any formal training.

For Marquez, all these celebrities disrespect boxing, do not take it seriously and believe that getting into a ring to exchange blows is a game.

The “Dinamita” didn’t hold anything back and knocked out the new boxers with his comments

“It’s a damage to boxing, it’s a damage to boxing. I remember when a trainer asked someone: ‘Would you like your son to be a boxer’, the answer was: ‘no, it is a very difficult sport, very dangerous, I would like him to study’. Now everyone wants to be a boxer,” he said to ESPN.

From a few years to date, many sports figures want to get into the ring to make an exhibition fight, and although they are athletes, in the ring they do not look good, but the pay they receive is high.

Mrquez also commented that they disrespect boxing

“In my point of view, without fear of being wrong, it’s a great lack of respect for boxing,” he said.

“Boxing should be taken seriously. The fighter trains, prepares. He leaves everything in the ring. It doesn’t seem fair to me that a ‘youtuber’ is in the ring, or a former basketball or NFL player. Boxing deserves respect. Respect has been lost,” said the former champion.

The brothers Paul, Logan and Jake are the influencers who have taken advantage of the window that boxing has given them, but not only them, we have seen MMA figures who have made some fights, such as Conor McGregor, Tyron Woodley and Anderson Silva.
