Big Brother’s Chris Kirkpatrick gets candid about the gameplay of the divisive season 24 and how he personally feels

Big Brother Season 24 has ended, but fans are still talking about what could ultimately be considered one of the best seasons in the history of the game. Former Houseguests share their thoughts on the season and what they liked and disliked about the latest episodes, which includes celebrities who also starred. Chris Kirkpatrick knows a little about house drama as an alumnus of Celebrity Big Brother 3 and had some candid thoughts on the final season.

I had a chance to speak with NSYNC’s Chris Kirkpatrick after his release from the The masked singerwhere it reached fanboy for variety and meet one of his idols. After talking about this experience, I asked him what he thought about it Big Brother Season 24 knowing he is a fan and former player. Kirkpatrick shared his Season 24 highlights that may be in line with many’s take on this season as he went along:

I think this season started off as one of the most boring I’ve ever seen in my life and quickly turned that around and became one of the most exciting ever. It’s going to take them a few weeks to really get going with the game and the flip flops and all that stuff. I think it was a great season, it was fun to watch. I was a big Turner fan, I love watching Turner. He was very funny.

Chris Kirkpatrick is a fan of Matt Turner, which isn’t necessarily hot. Turner definitely caught the attention of many fans as one of the winningest guests after Michael Bruner’s record winning streak. Kirkpatrick also noted that he’s a fan of the season as a whole, especially with all the twists (which you can read about in our Big Brother Season 24 breakdown).

Still, there were some notes about season 24 and the state of modern Big Brother generally. The singer who was part of the abbreviated but almost as dramatic Celebrity Big Brother 3noted that there’s one trend he’s not a fan of:

I don’t like how some of the gameplay has become “More than gameplay”. I don’t like to bring up the racial or homophobic side of it. This is a game. Let’s just play the game… It kind of affected my season. Where it was like I don’t want to deal with this negativity. If someone wants to lie and say these things about me and if I stand up to them, they will lie even more and make me look bad. If I don’t, they’ll just hit me and say I’m a certain way. So, I wish we could just go back to Big Brother and not use all of that in the game. There are other places you can use these things. This is a game. It’s a fun game. Big Brother is fun to watch. Let’s put all these other things aside.

However, Chris Kirkpatrick did not specify what drama he was talking about Celebrity Big Brother fans may recall that there were some real ones drama with Olympian Mirai Nagasu during the game. It could certainly affect some of his thinking when he sees what happened to other houseguests like Kyle Capener with his racist polemicor some of the allegations made by Houseguest against Taylor Hale in manipulating Paloma Aguilar’s mental health.

The NSYNC singer isn’t the only former guest to talk about the changes in modern Big Brother. CinemaBlend spoke with Janelle Pierzina a while back, and she pointed out that social media and cancellation culture are getting in the way of modern seasons reaching the same tension and intensity of the classic seasons. Whether that’s for good or bad is up to fans to decide, but no matter where they are, they can always revisit classic seasons with Paramount+ subscription.

Big Brother was renewed for season 25 on CBS (opens in new tab), but we will still have time to wait for its premiere. As mentioned, the classic seasons and the latest season 24 are now available on Paramount+ and should hold people over until the new season arrives.
