BBC The One Show viewers squirm as Alex Jones interviews her ex in the studio

Viewers of BBC’s The One Show were left reeling tonight – as Alex Jones interviewed his EX live on the show. Alex interviewed his ex-boyfriend Steve Jones, Channel 4 Formula One presenter, on BBC’s The One Show on Tuesday 4th July.

Alex and Jermaine Jenas hosted Steve to discuss this weekend’s British Grand Prix, among other things. But viewers were left to comment on the fact that Alex and Steve were dating.

Twitter user Vicky B wrote: “Weren’t Alex and Steve dating and he stole work from her? #TheOneShow.” Erin commented: ” #theoneshow interviewing Kate Moss in front of famous writer Steve Jones, she would probably be published now if only she was Kate Moss ffs enough publishers! He’s not even famous! @PenguinUKBooks

The Welsh broadcasters were in a relationship from 1999 to 2002 when they both worked on Channel 4’s Rise. Alex was the show’s entertainment correspondent – and says the pair split after Steve pretended she was ill for to be able to interview Angelina Jolie herself.

Alex told Dish podcast hosts Nick Grimshaw and Michelin-starred chef Angela Hartnett all about the split in March of this year. Alex explained: : “Normal [Rise] will call in the morning and ask to come and do an interview or a junket.”

“I was staying at his [Steve’s] flat when I was working in London and he picked up the landline and said, ‘Al’s not here. She’s not feeling well, she had to go back to Cardiff – I was in Topshop,’ she said. “So he did the interview,” Alex added.

Alex previously spoke on Angela Scanlon’s podcast, saying: “So I went back to the flat and I was like, where is he? Hours passed, no one answered their phones. Finally I thought I’d drive back to Cardiff because I don’t know where you are, you must have been going to the pub.

“Then the production company called and they said, ‘We have a little situation. Tomorrow morning your boyfriend is going to the premiere with Angelina Jolie and it would be really funny if you came on line, live at the show and surprised him and said you knew exactly what he was up to.

“So I said yes. On live TV I’m like, ‘You lied to me, where have you been?’ So yeah, it’s no surprise that we broke up on live TV!”
