April 18, 2023 — The City of Houston invites all job seekers to attend the Turnaround Houston Job and Readiness Fair on Thursday, April 27. Hosted by the City of Houston Office of Business Opportunities in partnership with Council Member Tiffany Thomas, District F and Workforce Solutions, the event will be held at the Alief Community Center High School from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. It’s part of the Turnaround Houston initiative launched by Mayor Sylvester Turner in 2016 to help Houstonians overcome barriers to employment.

“Houston’s turnaround has led to opportunities for countless people who need a second chance,” said Mayor Turner. “They have built strong collaborative partnerships with some of the best businesses and organizations in our city. Industries include construction, technology, telecommunications and many more. Work gives people a sense of pride, allowing them to care for their families and achieve personal goals. I encourage all job seekers, regardless of employment or criminal history, to attend this free event and take advantage of the exciting career opportunities that await.”

More than 30 employers and resource organizations will attend Turnaround Houston, and job seekers will also have the opportunity to participate in on-site interviews with hiring managers.

“Jobs and workforce development have always been a priority of mine,” said Council Member Thomas. “I am excited to work with the Office of Business Opportunity and help Houstonians make positive changes to their economic future.”

More than 1,600 full-time and part-time positions ranging from entry-level to experienced senior management will be available in industries such as healthcare, finance and hospitality. Resource organizations will be on hand to provide information on job readiness tools, training and continuing education.

“At Turnaround Houston, we work with reputable employers and resource organizations eager to connect with job seekers and those in need of job search assistance,” said Marcia E. Murray, Director of the Office of Business Opportunity . “My office and our community partners look forward to welcoming Houstonians to this event.”
