With it largely satirizing the genre, star Lucky Yates reveals that Archer has a huge celebrity fan, and it’s perfect, in Daniel Craig. The English actor is recently coming off of his 15-year tenure leading Eon’s James Bond movie franchise as the iconic super spy, which helped launch him to international stardom. In the years since making his Bond debut in Casino Royale, Craig has received further acclaim for his work in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Logan Lucky and Knives Out, the latter of which earned him a Golden Globe nomination and for which he’s gearing up to return for its sequel Glass Onion releasing later this year.
Archer primarily lampoons the espionage spy genre and centers on H. Jon Benjamin’s titular super spy and the colleagues at his dysfunctional intelligence agency. Throughout its 12-season run, the series has featured a wide array of big-name guest stars, including Burt Reynolds, Kumail Nanjiani, Patrick Warburton, Jamie Lee Curtis and Simon Pegg, among others. With Archer having garnered widespread critical acclaim and a fan following since its 2009 premiere, it appears the show has a special place in one celebrity’s heart.
While speaking exclusively with Screen Rant to discuss the show’s new season, Lucky Yates shared that Archer has a huge, and perfect, celebrity fan in Daniel Craig. The Krieger actor revealed that the former James Bond actor loves the show and even paid a visit to its studio while he was in town filming something else. See what Yates shared below:
By the way, Daniel Craig loves this show, so it’s like we’ve been kissed by the Pope. Oh yeah, he’s a huge fan. He visited the studio when he was in town shooting some movie or other and his rep called the studio just to go like, “So, Daniel Craig is a huge Archer fan, and he wants to tour the studio where you make it.” Everybody went scrambling and made the place ready, and it was [fun]. But yeah, he loves it.
Though the timeline on when he visited the studio is unknown, Yates’ reveal that Daniel Craig is a major Archer fan should come as an interesting reveal for fans of both the show and the former James Bond actor. Given the animated comedy largely pulls inspiration from the James Bond franchise, including its titular character’s penchant for womanizing, drinking and high-octane action sequences, it’s understandable one close to the long-running spy movie series would find some appreciation in the show. What will be interesting to see is if the producers behind Archer can finally bring on Craig for a cameo in the series, especially given his recent forays into the comedy genre with Logan Lucky and Knives Out.
Even if Craig doesn’t make a cameo appearance, the fact that he’s a big Archer fan is sure to bolster many audiences’ love for the actor and show. It will also be interesting to see if other James Bond alums come out in the near future sharing their praises for the show now that Craig’s love for it is now known. Audiences can catch up with the first 12 seasons of Archer streaming on Hulu now and new episodes of season 13 airing on Wednesdays on FXX.
