Virtusa recognizes the importance of staying ahead of the game as the future workplace evolves.

Introduce yourself and tell us about your organization.

Virtusa’s HR Tech Charter focuses on digitizing and delivering the next generation employee experience by implementing a unified and forward-looking technology platform across our organization, Virtusa. With a robust employee-centric approach, Charter aims to deliver a personalized employee experience, drive high engagement and build a future-ready workforce.

We at Virtusa are hard at work transforming our approach to talent through technology to create a seamless and personalized ecosystem of experiences for our candidates, employees and employee success managers. Digital tools and cutting-edge technologies complement this transformation. Our talent transformation strategy consists of four strategic strands: personalized employee experience, employee advocacy and candidate experience, learning and growth, and leadership development.

What do you think defines an organization as a top employer today?

An organization can be recognized as a top employer based on several key factors. First, a personalized employee experience is critical. Each employee should feel valued and their unique needs and preferences should be catered for, creating a sense of belonging to the organization.

Cohort-based engagement is another defining aspect. Encouraging employees to collaborate, learn from each other, and create meaningful connections improves their overall experience.

Best-in-class wellness practices are essential for a top employer. This includes prioritizing the mental and physical health of employees, offering wellness programs and creating a positive work environment.

Flexible working conditions are highly valued by employees today. Organizations that provide flexibility and support work-life balance by adapting to personal routines gain a competitive advantage.

Additionally, the appropriate use of next-generation technology to create a seamless employee experience across all key aspects of the employee lifecycle sets a top employer apart. Using innovative tools and platforms increases efficiency, productivity and overall employee satisfaction.

Tell us about a recent initiative you pushed at Virtusa that you’re most proud of?

One of Virtusa’s most notable initiatives is our HR technology transformation program, guided by several guiding principles such as employee-centric, technology-first, on-the-go, hyper-personalized, fast-paced and single-source of truth.

The outcomes we seek to achieve through this program are employee satisfaction (eNPS), diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), becoming an employer of choice and retaining talent.

We focused on improving various core employee lifecycle journeys including applicant experience, employee advocacy, digital onboarding, gamified virtual onboarding, internal talent marketplace, AI-powered skills framework, learning experience platform, an RM search and matching tool, an immigration platform, a business travel platform, employee engagement and communication, a rewards platform and advanced analytics for every aspect of the employee lifecycle.

By implementing these initiatives at Virtusa, we have significantly improved the employee experience, strengthened employee engagement and streamlined various HR processes, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.

What is the next goal in Virtusa’s journey to continue improving the employee experience?

To further enhance the employee experience, Virtusa will continue to invest in building and nurturing a diverse workforce through our targeted DEI program. We believe that fostering an inclusive environment where people of all backgrounds feel valued and have equal opportunities is critical to creating a positive employee experience.

By promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in our organization, we aim to attract the best talent, increase employee engagement and satisfaction, and encourage innovation and creativity.

We will regularly evaluate and improve our DEI initiatives, ensuring that Virtusa remains an inclusive and supportive workplace where employees can thrive and reach their full potential.

What is the biggest challenge facing your organization today and how do you plan to overcome it?

One of the significant challenges we face is the talent shortage in the market, especially in line with our rapid growth objectives. To address this challenge, we have implemented robust talent development programs, including master’s programs, to attract and nurture young talent.

In addition, we have focused on upskilling and reskilling initiatives to develop our existing workforce, ensuring they have the necessary skills and capabilities to meet changing business needs. By investing in talent development and retention programs, we aim to build a strong pool of skilled professionals and reduce reliance on external recruitment.

Additionally, we actively monitor market trends and adapt our talent acquisition strategies accordingly. By remaining flexible and proactive, we can attract top talent by offering competitive compensation packages, growth opportunities and a positive work environment.

How will your organization need to adapt to meet the changing future workplace?

Virtusa recognizes the importance of staying ahead of the game as the future workplace evolves. As our HR technical program provides valuable insight into employee sentiment and changing expectations, we will accelerate our research and development (R&D) efforts and investments.

Research and development will enable us to effectively anticipate and respond to the rapidly evolving dynamics of the talent market. Our Employee Success Managers will be equipped with tools to gain knowledge and relevant experience through proof of concepts (PoCs) and experimentation with innovative talent frameworks.

We plan to introduce the “Gig workforce” strategy as a new employment concept. This strategy involves leveraging the potential of contract and temporary workers to meet our clients’ short service requirements. While we have successfully implemented this concept internally, we are now ready to extend its application to our customers, supported by our optimized systems and robust vendor partner ecosystem.

We will embrace emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and automation to streamline processes, improve productivity and create a more agile and efficient workforce. By continually adapting and leveraging technological advances, we will ensure our organization remains at the forefront of the future workplace, providing employees with a rewarding and fulfilling experience.

This interviewee was kindly introduced to us by “Best Employers Institute – the global certification body for excellence in employee conditions.” Their organization is certified as a Top Employer.
