Anita stands by her early 2000s love for lip-gloss
When quizzed on her favourite 2000s trend, Anita said, “My favourite trend from the 2000s, I think, would be glossy lips. You know we always chose glossy lips over matte. You know, the shine, the shimmer. You didn’t really need a lip job to make your lips fuller. The glossy lips did it all and they looked so glam and I really really loved it.”
But today, she wouldn’t go back to the 2000s trends, and chooses to embrace new styles, “Honestly, at that time I didn’t have a great fashion sense. I’ve evolved majorly. It’s always about moving forward. It’s about being a better version of yourself.”
Anita’s haircare tips are simple but useful
Anita has a gorgeous mane that she styles in beautiful ways. She credits a basic yet regular nourishment routine for these locks.
“Humare zamane mein toh mom bolti thi, ‘Tel lagao sar pe…’ so I have a habit of regularly oiling my hair. Always make sure that you understand your hair type and use products that suit you. Check the ingredients that are used. And I feel that drinking water does help your skin and I just have a feeling that it hydrates your scalp too,” she shared.
Have coloured hair? Here’s what Anita recommends to protect it
Anita has tried numerous hair colours, be it burgundy or caramel. So, she is quite the expert on taking care of dyed, dry hair.
“The edges get super dry, so I think it’s important to condition your hair regularly. Then also, see, straightening, curling, is a part of my job. But avoid high temperature to reduce damage, as in, jitna ho sake. I use some heat control products as well. Then, like I said, I think oiling is universal, it helps with everything,” she said.
Anita’s post-pregnancy skincare journey
Pregnancy brings a lot of changes to the body with it, and this includes changes in the skin as well. Here’s how Anita tackled the issues faced during this period, “When you’re pregnant, everybody says, ‘Arre skin glow ho rahi hai.’ After pregnancy is when you realise ki, ‘Dude you know you really have to take care of your skin to maintain the glow.’ So drinking water for sure is a must. Before pregnancy, I used to just go for the bigger brands. But it’s about realising what suits your skin, what goes into your skincare products that you’re using. It’s important to understand your skin type, and depending on that, maintain a skincare regime, so that the purpose of what you want your skin to look like is solved. So evolving with time, like going clean, toxin-free, cruelty-free, vegan products with no chemicals.”
Today, Anita’s beauty routine is clean, and her skincare no-nos have changed, “It’s super clean, so no harsh chemicals like dyes, formaldehyde, no synthetic preservatives, no artificial colour, no fragrance. It’s all clean, stable, the right consistency, the right amount of everything.”
Why and how Anita created her own beauty brand
Anita recently launched a clean beauty brand called Better Beauty. Here’s why she decided to create the brand, “I’ve come to a point in my life where I wanted to lead a better life, have a better lifestyle, better skin, better health, and not just as an individual, but to provide the opportunity to other people to get the same experience in skincare that I do. So, the idea is to create a brand that has honest disclosures and is a cleaner alternative option for skincare musts. Want to lessen the environmental impact that this industry has, so creating a better world for the future generation, for Aru, for my kid.”
But, the journey wasn’t quick. A lot of testing went into formulating these products, “Effective and science-driven beauty products have a lot of back-work that needs to be put in. For example, the hyaluronic acid cleanser, it was developed in over, say a year and a half, with like 15 different iterations. It’s like all the ingredients put into it are the right amount. And of course, post that, it’s the feel of the product, the consistency. So, all the products were tested and formulated in a certified laboratory in partnership with one of India’s leading formulation experts.”
Anita’s recommendations for a clean beauty routine
More than specific products, Anita recommends being mindful in one’s approach to beauty purchases.
“See, skincare products become a part of your skin for a very long period of time. It’s important that we switch to a cleaner solution. Now, clean beauty is a very broad term. The products that fall under this category are basically free of harmful toxins, are ethically formulated, and ensure that they are good for your skin and for the planet, too,” she said.
