She is now gearing up for the release of Ponniyin Selvan II. Considering the impact that the first part of Mani Ratnam’s film left, it is safe to say that the sequel to the period drama will also be a hit. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan plays the role of Nandini in Ponniyin Selvan. Nandini’s character is very dear to her, even in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam – her character’s name was the same.
At the promotional event of Ponniyin Selvan II in Mumbai, Aishwarya spoke about Nandini’s role in both the films. As reported by India Today, Aishwarya Rai said that Nandini in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, which also stars Salman Khan, is very memorable as it lives on in people’s hearts. She expressed gratitude as she was able to play the role as it remained special to the audience. She said it’s a blessing to play such strong women and multi-layered female characters who touch lives. She was quoted as saying, “It was Sanjay Bhansali ji and today, for my Mani Garu, I have to play Nandini in Poniin Selvan. It’s just a huge blessing to have the opportunity to play such strong women, such multi-layered women, and women with a character that touches the lives of so many women out there. It has reliability and I’m very, very, very grateful.”
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan further mentioned that she will essay any role offered to her my Mani Ratnam. It’s always a “natural yes.”

Ponniyin Selvan II releases on April 28.
