The movie darlings was just released and is being praised for speaking out about domestic violence with a dash of dark humor. The film features Alia Bhatt, Vijay Verma and Shefali Shah in the lead roles with strong performances along with many supporting actors who bring life to the narrative.

Among them is actor Vikram Pratap, who made his acting debut with darlings. He gets candid about his role, work experience and what he learned from the film. “I play a character named Abdul. He is a friend of Hamza (played by Vijay Verma) and they go out together. He is jealous of Hamza getting a job, so he opens his own pharmacy. Badru (Alia Bhatt) thinks her husband is unstable due to his addiction to alcohol, so she goes to this pharmacy to ask for medicine to cure his addiction. He gives her the medicine, but then the character goes and spills the news to her husband,” the actor shares.

When asked how he tackled the role, he says, “During the second wave of COVID, my parents were unwell, so I had to come back home. Before I went I gave my audition in Mumbai and forgot about it. Later, after five months, I got a call that I was selected for the role.”

Talking about sharing the screen with Alia in the film, he says, “My first scene was with Alia and it was great working with her. She is such a big star, but she doesn’t bring that stardom with her. She is a modest and modest land like person. She was very comfortable to work with. Also, it was great to work with Vijay Verma as he is an amazing actor. It was a delightful experience watching Shefali Shah Mamam perform. So it really is a memory that I will cherish for the rest of my life. I got to learn a lot about filmmaking and acting.”

The elated actor adds, “I never thought of debuting in such a big production. This has come to me as a blessing in disguise from the Covid situation and I am grateful for that. It was all predestined and now that it’s been released, I feel blessed.”

He also tells us more about the positive feedback he has received since the film’s release: “I come from a very small town, Bhind (Chambal), so to come from there and act in a big film is a huge thing for people in my hometown. I get overwhelming responses. The people of Bhind are very happy to see my work.”
