Laal Singh Chaddha is based on the multi-Oscar winning 1994 Hollywood classic, Forest Gumpwhich traces the evolution of Tom Hanks” an eponymous character in the annals of American history. Laal Singh Chadha the trailer of is expected to follow a similar path Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor a star that fell between IPL 2022 final, means just that, with a young Aamir Khan suffering from a walking disability plus mental challenges, only to overcome the former and undertake a life-changing cross-country marathon.
Laal Singh Chaddha Box Office Day 1 Prediction
BollywoodLife got in touch with renowned film exhibitor and distributor Akshaye Rathi, who opines, “This is a word-of-mouth genre film and not a commercial masala entertainer. So it will have its own Ranking stands on the merits of its content and, thankfully, revolves around a premise that is very universal in its appeal – the story of India through one man’s story can potentially touch the hearts of many across the country. I think Laal Singh Chaddha is likely to start in the ₹12 crore nett range and then build on its merits. There is Raksha Bandhan (the festival), Independence Day, the whole weekend and these factors can really increase business.”
We also got in touch with well-known exhibitor and trade expert Vishek Chauhan, who had a tougher take on the prospect of an Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor-starrer opening. “Progress is very slow. Whatever came in (8-10 crore nett) was from high-end multiplexes and spread across the weekend and advance bookings are almost nil domestically even though the film releases on Raksha Bandhan and has two holidays during its extended (5-day) weekend. There is a real lack of interest resulting in zero traction in many parts of the country. It might take an opening of Rs 12-13 crore nett but that would be a disastrous opening as it was pegged as a Rs 300 crore film,” he said.
How the ‘Boycott Laal Singh Chaddha’ trend will affect its opening
Talking about the boycott trend, Akshaye Rathi added, “Honestly, if there is a certain section of people who don’t want to watch the film for some reason, not having that audience definitely hurts the business. But I also feel that the intention of every storyteller, every director eventually comes through and if Laal Singh Chaddha is a film that really celebrates India and the Indian ethos, the culture of India, the Indian festivals, I’m sure people will come out to celebrate the film as well. So, let’s wait for the credits to really speak before trying to figure out if the whole “boycott trend” will have any significant impact.
Vishek Chauhan, meanwhile, kept it sweet and simple, saying, “Boycott dramas like this keep happening and this is one of those social media trolls who rarely dare to visit theaters and if the film doesn’t work, it will come down to, that people aren’t really interested in watching it.”
Laal Singh Chaddha hits theaters worldwide on August 11.
