The investigation into the death of BJP leader and former Bigg Boss contestant Sonali Phogat took a drastic turn after the Goa police on Friday arrested Sudhir Sangwan, the personal assistant of the victim, along with Sukhwinder Singh, in connection with the murder case. While addressing a press conference, Inspector General of Police Omveer Singh Bishnoi said that Sangwan had confessed to the crime. “After drinking the water, she felt restless and ill in the restaurant. The police officer said that after reaching Goa, he along with Sukuvinder took Sonali Phogat to Curley’s restaurant in North Goa on the pretext of partying and he (Sangwan) mixed some disgusting substance in the drinking water and forced Sonali to drink it. The CCTV footage of the respective premises was reviewed by the investigating officer and it was found that Sudhir was forcibly forcing Sonali to drink something. Sonali was seen struggling to keep her balance and limping inside the pub as she held on to Sangwan for support. The recording time is 4:27 am.

“As the post-mortem report does not mention the exact cause of death and will be available only after chemical examination of the internal organs, histopathology and serology reports, which will take some time to avoid the possibility of destroying evidence and influencing witnesses as Both Sukwinder and Sangwan have been arrested and further investigation is on,” Bishnoi said, adding that the case would be investigated from all angles.

Sonali’s brother Rinku Dhaka had told reporters on Thursday, “Sudhir Sagwan (PA of Phogat) told us that the shooting of the film was there on August 24. But the hotel rooms are only booked for two days, August 22nd and 23rd. There was no film shot. It was fake. We didn’t see any actor or movie shooting here.”

According to the Goa Police, Sonali Phogat felt restless on Monday night and later in the morning (Tuesday), she was taken to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Anjuna around 8 am where she was declared brought dead.
