A few weeks ago, Taapsee Pannu found herself in hot water with the paparazzi after she arrived at the promotional event of her upcoming film Dobaaraa at Mithibai College in Mumbai. She got into a heated argument after one of the photographers allegedly spoke to her in a derogatory manner when she did not oblige them with photos as scheduled. While Taapsee was criticized by netizens for her behavior after the video surfaced online, the actress has now broken her silence on the issue. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Taapsee said that the paparazzi should respect her as much as she respects them as she believes that respect is a two-way street. She mentioned that she has dealt with paparazzi in all three industries Tamil, Telugu and Hindi and many of them are her friends. “But some of them sometimes forget that there is a very fine line between being a public figure and public property,” she added. Taapsee said that she never calls the paparazzi for her personal promotion and they were at the Dobaaraa event because they were called by the production houses. Giving an insight into what happened at the event, Taapsee said, “You should hear the tone in which they speak sometimes. It is so insulting to us. The way this gentleman talked to me it was like he was doing me a favor by snapping at me. Even my parents don’t scold me with that tone. I don’t even know how to describe it to you. They gave me a schedule to follow. This I was doing. Why should I be on the receiving end of this tone, as if I had committed a crime?” Also Read – Worst dressed celebs of the week: Vijay Deverakonda, Anjali Arora, Tamannaah and other stars whose fashion outings failed

“I refuse to accept that I was disrespectful to anyone. I was calm, I continued to smile respectfully, even though this gentleman did not respect me at all. He kept making faces at me and talking to me in a very humiliating tone. I didn’t want to “I folded my arms and accepted everything he had to say,” she added.

Taapsee feels that sometimes paparazzi take advantage of situations because they have a camera that gives you a one-sided narrative. She said that “in this day and age, it’s very easy to target a person and humiliate them by putting out one-sided videos.” She stated that “We are not idiots. We’re not illiterate to lose our cool on a video for no reason.”

“Unfortunately, they are the public’s windows to celebrities and therefore there are many people who abuse that power. I am a human being like anyone reading this interview. When I’m being spoken to rudely, I have every right to ask why I’m being spoken to that way. I haven’t done anything wrong. We are all in the same industry. They should respect me as much as I respect them. Just because we’re on this side of the camera doesn’t mean we have to be polite,” she concluded.
