J. K Rowling, who is known for writing the much-loved Harry Potter series of seven novels, has received death threats after she condemned the brutal attack on fellow British author Salman Rushdie. The public threat reportedly came from a pro-Iran extremist, according to IANS.
On Friday night, Rowling took to Twitter to express her horror at Rushdie’s assassination attempt. Authorities said the author was stabbed in the neck and abdomen on stage at the event held at the Chautauqua Institute by the 24-year-old man, identified as Hadi Matar of Fairview, New Jersey.
“Terrible news. I feel very bad right now. Let him get better,” Rowling tweeted about Rushdie’s attack. In response to her tweet, a Twitter user named Meer Asif Aziz, whose bio reads as a student, social activist, political activist and research activist, wrote: “Don’t worry, you’re next.”
According to Deadline, Rowling publicly asked Twitter to step in, asking @TwitterSupport, “Any chance of any support?” but Aziz’s post currently remains in place. He previously described the man arrested over the attack on Rushdie, Hadi Matar, as a “revolutionary Shia fighter”.

This latest threat to Rowling follows the attack on Salman Rushdie, who was stabbed up to 15 times at a conference near Buffalo, New York, where he was about to give a lecture on free speech. Rushdie’s agent revealed that the author is currently off the ventilator and can talk. Rushdie appeared to be in danger of losing his eye, suffered nerve damage to his arm and suffered liver damage.
