Is there a notable example that a player has done, or someone who has taken you aside in a session and offered you this advice?

Honestly, everyone has. They all helped me along the way. But I think I’d say more Salah and the skip to be honest – Hendo. Just because I’ve played on that right side now, it’s more in their positions and around their playing qualities. So, for me, those two helped me, took me aside and said you have to do this or you can try this. Especially Mo, he always gives me different things to work on. He always tells me to follow him in training or in the gym so he can help me along the way and stuff. I mean, everyone, like I said, has done it on the trip so far, and they’re all willing to help anyone. Whether it’s Milner, who is the oldest here, to the youngest player in the team. This is one of them, no one feels left out and everyone is here to help and nurture them.

Does this feel like the greatest season of your life? Everyone will, but this season in particular?

I think so. I think that personally I have something to prove and the team has something to prove. Last season, unfortunately, we didn’t win the Premier League or the Champions League. We were so close it was a shame for us, but I think for the team and for me it’s a big season. It’s always going to be a big season. No matter where you go in your football career, a season will have many ups and downs and a lot of tension. It’s up to you if you can handle it and perform under that pressure, especially at Liverpool. It’s such a big club, there are world-class players around the squad, so there’s no room to relax or not perform at your best, so that’s always in the back of my mind. At the same time, it’s always a pleasure and it’s always a dream for me to play for Liverpool, so I always try to give 110 percent and I always try to go the extra mile just to give the fans [and] show how much Liverpool means to me and how much I care about this team.

You say you have a lot to prove, what’s behind that? Does the pressure come from being a Liverpool player or do you look back on the injury?

Honestly, I think about both. The pressure of being a Liverpool player to begin with – it’s one of the best clubs in the world, if not the best. So people just assume they all are [a] world class player that they are. With that comes great tension. And yes, with the injury. Obviously I started the season well and then the injury came and I wasn’t at my best. Just for me personally, I want to get back to my best. I want to make sure I can show the world and show Liverpool and everyone involved that I can still play and the injury has passed me and I feel 100 per cent. It’s a big season, I just have to make sure that if the opportunities come, I just have to take them and just enjoy it. The injury came and I was in a dark and bad place, so I just don’t take these opportunities for granted and make sure I take them with both hands and perform to the best of my ability.
